Hallo I have just discovered this site and have already found it helpful.

My husband wa diagnosed 5 years ago. Not able to operate due to his age (79 at the time) and chest problems. Radiotherapy not suitable as tumours were not all in the same place.

He has been on hormone therapy since then - quarterly injections together with 6-monthly checks at the hospital. His general health has been ok until recently but his psa level has started to rise in the last 6 months.

He is now on another tablet and is having a 3 month review shortly.

I would like to say that he has been generally quite well and the prognosis is that in the words of the specialist - 'it probably wont kill you'. He is now 84 and probably handles it better than I do but it does feel like living under the sword of Damocles.

Sorry for the rant but I do actually feel a bit better for doing it. It is possible to enjoy years together with this awful disease so make the most of them.

Hello Cally and welcome to the site.

Sorry that your other half has had such a lot to put up with. (As well as you, of course. It's hard on us wives eh?)

Glad you found us at any rate. We are a caring bunch and somebody on here is bound to have experienced at least some of the treatment your husband has had.

It helps to vent the anger and frustration doesn't it and listening is something we are very good at so rant away.

Others will be along at some stage I'm sure so until then

Best Wishes

Sandra

Hello Cally,

HT can sometimes work for many years. If at some stage PSA rises indicate the prescribed HT is no longer doing the job, it is quite common for a different Drug to be added such as Casodex which may be the case here. Again, this works for individuals to a varying extent and in need there are further drugs down the line. So yes, a man of this sort of age may well die with PCa rather than due to it.
