ED and pads

Hi all.
Its been a long time since I last posted so just thought I would add a wee bit.
Waiting for RT, going to Beatson on 29th June to discuss the process but have been told it will be for 6 weeks.
My problem at the moment is that my bladder has started playing up, I was dry 2 days after catheter was removed in February but I have had to wear a pad the past 6 weeks due to the sudden urge to pee in a hurry, tablets not making any difference so now going for a scope up the auld fella to look for scar tissue.
Saw the ED nurse last week who has put me on Cialis but he isn't too confident of success due to the surgery I received.
Just wondering if anyone out there has the same symptoms of being dry to suddenly needing pads.
Hope everyone is staying strong and upbeat.
Cheers
Sandy

There are some similarities with our events. I have suffered with a stricture since my Robotic op 26 months ago. I was 99percent dry 4 days after the catheter was removed, flow was good and my surgeon was pleasantly surprised at my quick recovery. Two dilatations followed at 3 and 6 month but continence was still good.15 months post op a simple dilatation went wrong and I was left catheterized for about 90 and on removal of the last catheter(Nov 2015) I was left leaking about 200 mls a day, gradually this dropped to about 3-5 mls per day. Another drop in the flow about three weeks ago resulted in three dilatation procedures in four days and bouts of retention between the dilatations.

I am now almost continent again but if I do not go to the loo as soon as the urge comes on I leak. My urine has been tested and there was an infection but antibiotics did not shift the infection and yesterday’s test was also positive and has been sent off to lab to be tested/ grown. My volume has also decreased lately as if the bladder cannot hold more than about 200ml, most times the volume is around the 100 mls. Have you had your urine tested for an infection.

On the ED front I was supposedly Non Nerve sparring but 26 months later I am still making progress. At about twelve months I was getting stirrings and was put on daily sildenafil with some degree of success and without all the problems of the stricture it may have been even better. So fight for getting daily sildenafil even if only for three months to establish whether your nerves are beyond repair.

The guest speaker at our local support meeting last night was my ED consultant, He came out with a statement that 15 percent of “supposedly” Non nerve sparring operations actually get “some” recovery. I would agree that removed or badly damaged nerves cannot recover but my surgeon’s explanation is that there is a network of nerves and some must have survived.

Thanks Chris

Hi Chris.
I was at hospital today for bladder scan which showed that my bladder is emptying ok but nurse has no idea what is happening with the urge to go as often.
I did have an infection which lasted about 6 weeks but that has now cleared up.
Problem is that as soon as I drink anything I get the urge to pee and ain't nothing gonna stop it. Really frustrating especially as I went 4 months dry and with a good flow, flow is now weak and straggly, although the first spurt is strong then it wakens rapidly.
Being sent for a scope now to determine if it is scar tissue or narrowing of the uretha that is causing the problem, not looking forward to that.
On the ED side, I have been on 5mg of Cialis now for about 7 weeks. Finally saw the ED nurse last week who told me to take an additional 20mg when the mood takes, so will give that a wee go to see what happens.
Cheers

On a few occasions the scope helped improve the flow for a while, I can only assume it dislodged something, they have always struggled to get the scope into the bladder so I have then had to have dilatation normally under general anaesthetic. In the right hands the scope is a painless procedure, in the wrong hands it can be mildly uncomfortable.

Hope it goes well.

Thanks Chris
