Another Newbie....where next I ask?

Hi Folks,

As above another Newbie, am 57 years young.

Current status - diagnosed in July 2016.

First PSA 72. T3b N1 M0

After 6 months of ProStop, PSA is now 0.8.

I have just completed 6 cycles of Docetaxel/prednisalone.

That was rough.

I am due to begin Radio in July/ August 10 weeks of radio.

As far as I can tell, the treatment regime is current and chemo given at first discovery.

This is something thats new and didnt happen a few years ago.

Where next I ask?

I have an appointment with my Oncologist in a couple of weeks time.  Is there any pertinent questions I should be asking?

I ask this as you folks have went through or are going through the regime, and know the current pitfalls and questions I should be asking.

Am not sure how I will feel after the radiotherapy, Some say its easy, another said it flattened them.

But 50 treatment sound like a lot.

As usual its the future treatment that is the unknown, which concerns me. What happens after Radiotherapy??

Anyway - just to say hi to the other members on here.

All the very best wishes.

Ade.

Hi Ade

I can't comment on your treatment pathway as it is very different to my own. There are great people on this site who will be better placed to comment. You're in the right place for support. Don't forget to call the specialist nurses if you've got questions - they're really very good.

Hi Ade

I am another newbie diagnosed T3b Gleason 4+5 in Feb 2017 with a psa of 24.5 and on a similar treatment regime i.e. Prostap and have just had my 5/6 doxetaxol which has been bearable to date in my case

My oncologist has mentioned radiotherapy as a potential next treatment plan but I am somewhat concerned as to potential serious side effect

You may have seen the recent successful trial results for abiterone (there is another thread on here) which I will be discussing with my oncologist for sure?

Having followed some of the threads on here I am confident that we can gain confidence and wise support from other contributors for which I am grateful

Good luck with your decision making process

Cheers

Thanks Guys.
My Oncologist said about radiotherapy, 'We target the cancer hopefully without destroying the anus, or colon'.

As usual, I was informed as it is an aggressive cancer I should see 5 years, but not 10.
I see that as a target to beat anyway.

Like everything else, it is really baby steps, taking one treatment at a time so am not overwhelmed.
Anyway, onwards and upwards!!

Are you sure it's 50 fractions of RT you are to have - haven't heard of so many being given - the usual maximum in the UK is 37 currently?

I wondered about that as well but he does say 10 weeks - perhaps it is being given at a lower dose than usual?
