Rash with Bicalutamide?

Hi all, I’d appreciate anyone’s thoughts or experience on this, I’ve been on bicalutamide for about 5 weeks. Haven’t had any real side effects other than breast/nipple pain and discomfort (which I will be discussing at my approaching planning meeting for radiotherapy)

However, over the past week I’ve been feeling really itchy all over and uncomfortable. Been treating this with hot baths with Oilatum to keep moisture in.

But now I’ve noticed a rash on each side of my pelvis, at the top and side of the pubic area on each side. This has started moving down my thighs on the inside and hasn’t responded to anti/fungal cream (in case it was this)

Today I had my daily morning shower (again fairly warm/hot) and afterwards I was alarmed to see the insides of my arms all red, raised and blotchy - with more on the inside of my legs and behind knees. I think therefore it is heat rash, but wondering if it’s due to the time of year (dry, central heating environments) or whether it’s a side effect settling in after 5 weeks of Bicalutanide. Or an allergic reaction to it?

If anyone else has experienced similar issues with rash please let me know

Hi Bill, a mild rash is common with bicalutimide but if it is more than mild, you need to speak to a doctor - preferably your oncologist / urologist or your nurse specialist (if you have one) rather than your GP who may not know what to do. Some people are allergic to it, especially those who are lactose intolerant.

I got the rash as well - very uncomfortable during snaps of cold weather. I found applying moisturiser to the affected areas helps, but does mean some slightly tacky clothing. Other side effects with the Bical was the breast issue (Tamoxifen mended this), hot flushes (acupuncture coming up), loss of libido and fatigue. I have always responded disproportionately well to any meds, so I'm guessing that's the reason I have all the side effects to the extent I have. On the plus side, my 6 month post RT PSA test came back with <0.003, so there is a silver lining. Good luck with your side effects.
