I would say it is early days. Probably years before evidence is available for NICE to take a view on it. But expensive is certainly the right word!

There is good data now on cryotherapy which is a form of focal ablation - PCUK has a devoted page on the subject here

My husband had a a focal laser ablation in the USA in March 2017

Yes, ablation is another possibility, perhaps best suited where diagnosis is early and cancer is limited.. It is too early for for long term assessment to be made. Cryotherapy has been provided for longer and more frequently done in the USA. I didn't see any specific  reference  to PCa in the OP link but may have missed it.
