I am dreading next Sunday :-(

My husband had brachytherapy Aug 15. Oct 15 his PSA level had dropped from 10 to 5.15. In  Feb 16 - 3.4, Sept 16 - 2.8, March 17 -3.8, May 17 -3.3, Aug 17 - 3.2, Nov 17 - 2.5.

In November 17 we were told everything was heading in the right direction. He has good urinary function and remains potent with Viagra.  They said as his PSA continued to fall  the hospital signed him off into the care of our GP for 6 monthly monitoring and said that should his PSA rise above 4 they would see him again as a matter of urgency to re-start the diagnostic process.  He mentioned to the hospital that he was feeling tired but they said that was normal.

In April he had his bloods done, his PSA had risen to 2.9.  I know this rise isn't much but its on is way up and he was also diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia.  He was referred to the Gastro Clinic at our local hospital and the Dr mentioned that this type of anemia is generally an indication that he could have bowel / stomach cancer and he needed to put a camera up and down to rule this out.  These procedures are being carried out next Sunday.  He is becoming tireder by the day and quite breathless which I guess is down to the anemia which they are not treating until they find out the cause.

No one seems bothered about the rising PSA we sort of thought it should be reading 0. something by now but apparently not they are just keen to sort out whats going on in his stomach.

Has anybody else had brachytherapy then gone on to have bowel cancer?  I know it could be something or nothing but we are both really scared and don't seem to be getting answers from anyone.

Hello Andrea.

My husband had seed brachytherapy in 2014 but his PSA has never gone to zero (I'm not sure a reading of zero can be done actually )

I see from your other post that he has other problems so maybe they are all related.

You could try ringing the nurses on here tomorrow to see if they can offer you some advice and I'm sure you'll get somebody from here to give an opinion.

Good luck for Sunday
