Infection and high PSA

Hi

My husband had a small amount of blood in his semen. He went to his GP who ran bloods and semen culture and also performed a DRE. His semen culture showed an infection and the GP said his prostate felt knobbly on a small section . His PSA has come back high at 18 . He's been referred to the urologist as GP was more concerned about the texture than the psa which could be elevated due to infection + DRE + the act of gaining the semen sample . Has anyone ever had a knobbly texture with a prostate Infection? And high Psa.

Thank you

Hi, Mrs Worry.

I'm sorry that you've had to find us but welcome to the forum.

I'm not medically trained.

How old is your husband?

His elevated PSA could be caused by other non cancerous prostate conditions and infections, as could his knobbly prostate. With a PSA of 18, it's right that he's been referred to urology. I suspect they might advise that he has an MRI, which is much more accurate than a DRE and will give a much clearer picture of his condition.

I wish you both luck and please keep us updated with how you get on. 👍

Thank you for the reply , he is 54 , hopefully the elevated psa is due to the infection he has .
