Hi I am have been having lots of pain in last six months which was due to prostites .I visited hospital for ten time due to sever pain.Eventally,I was sent for CT scan and PSA which was normal.However, the pain carried on ...I asked .well begged for MRI.The urologist agreed and last week I had a result from my GP ...still waiting to hear from my urologist! My question is what is the meaning of this sentence ,There is some low signal bilaterally suggesting a bilateral tumour but no evidence of a capsular breach , Does this means I have cancer? I am waiting to see my urologist as he is on holiday at the moment.My GP is very busy and just told me that wait to see the urologist .I am so worried as I cannot understand the MRI wording.I will be grateful if someone kindly explain it to me.Thank you

Hi Essi, not sure which country you are in but usually prostate cancer is only diagnosed by a biopsy. From the quote you have given, it sounds like the scan showed areas on both sides of your prostate that were suspicious but that the area around the prostate looks healthy. Wait to see your urologist; he might want to do a biopsy and target the shadowy areas with the needle to see what is causing them.

Of course, we are not specialists like your urologist who will be able to tell lots of information from the pictures and might say that you don't need a biopsy. Having a suspicious area does not always mean you have cancer; it could be the prostatitis or some bleeding or bruising from a biopsy for example. Some urologists arrange a scan simply to help them take the biopsies from the best places.

It is stressful waiting for results but don't panic yet!

Hi Essi I would take that to mean , that what is shown on the scan is within the prostrate and not to other areas ,I notice you have not had a biopsy ,which in my case showed cancer , ask for the biopsy mine was pain free so make sure you have one ,remember you can ring the nurses here who are understanding and patient .Andy

Well the GP cannot say for sure that it is cancer because he hasn't done a biopsy. The scan is saying it LOOKS like cancer but you will still need a biopsy to confirm this and to get information about what kind it is etc.

Wait until you have spoken to the specialist before you start panicking; it sounds like this has been picked up at a very early stage.

You said your PSA was normal ..... what was the actual number?

Hi Essi,   Trust your urologist.it sounds from what I know that he is doing everythimg right.   He is giving your prostate time to heal while reviewing the situation in a few months.  Your PSA is good and what he said about pain is also true.   I do not think you have got prostate cancer but I am not a medical specialist.   Trust the man who has been trained to look after you.  Speak to the nurses on this site if you need support.    You are not alone. Hi El, thank you for your kind replay. I was so much overwhelm with pain in last few months that have lost my faith in care givers such as my GP .But I think your replay have given me a courage not to be so negative .Thank you again

Hi LymEyre and Andy, Thank you for your kind replays .This is the actual result of the MRI MRI Pelvis prostate: No evidence of any bone deposits. No evidence of a capsular breach. The seminal vesicles are normal .There is no pelvic lymphadenopathy. There is some low signal bilaterally suggesting a bilateral tumour but no evidence of a capsular breach and this appears to be an organ confined disease.
I live in UK ...My urologist told me that he will write to me when he get the scan,but I could not wait and got the result from my GP .My GP just said it is a cancer and I am lucky the way it is .He did not explain anything at all. My GP is a busy man !! I am going crazy I am hoping to the urologist pretty soon (looking everyday for post- man to deliver a appointment letter).I have not told any member of my family yet ,just don't want to give them hard time.In uk I only have my wife and two kids .I am just scared who is going to look after them after me ...wow Thank you again for your kind informations. Dear LynEyre , when I saw my urologist on 29TH September .He said your last PSA was fine and CT scan was clear (they were taken 25th July 2014 while I was in hospital with pain) ,as such, let nature takes its course and carry on with your painkiller . But as I was insisting on unbearable pain, he had a change of heart to do the MRI. He did not tell me the result in the form of numbers ect, just said that it was fine. When I asked my GP for the number of PSA he said I have to ask my secretary to get it from the hospital!!!?? Thank you again for your kind informative helps .I can only pray for your good health

Dear Andy, thank you for your kind supports .I will tell my wife slowly, so she don’t get too upset .She knows that I am in constant pain but have to tell her what it Might be .I had a bladder stone taken out on 13th August and it was very painful process …I am more hopeful now that it might be the bruising from the camerae going in and out.The urologist while doing the process said I don’t know why the tube is so narrow or something like that. But I was in such a pain, just wanted him to take the camera out!! I believe in God and hope the mystery or nightmare be over soon. Thank you again I do appreciate your kind replays and supports.

Greeting to all members , just to update …Still I am waiting for urologist letter to explain his finding from the MRI .However, I have received an appointment from hospital to see him on Monday 1st of December .I think it is log time waiting and worrying, but I have no choice and have to wait .I will up-date as soon as I get anything from the urologist .
is it normal that I have to wait such a long time to get the urologist views on my MRI?
I am just worried all these waiting the cancer (as my GP said it is !!) may spread to other part of my body and by time the sort me out it be too late wow I wish I could have afford the private health insurance when I was younger .

Warmest greeting,
Today I saw my urologist, he told me that the blood test for PSA was 0.75 (ng/mL) which is very low as the average for my age of (54) would be around 3.5(ng/mL) .Also prostate cancer does not produce the pain that I have been going through .The digital rectal exam (DRE) examination did not indicate any sign of cancer .He said something like ‘the prostate was soft as it should be’ ,as such, I have to wait for few months and will be send to another hospital with a up to dated MRI machine to have another MRI.
He said that as I have Prostatitis and still in pain having a biopsy is not advisable. In fact, it can cause my prostatitis more painful to cope with.
I am just interested if any member can give me some feedback please?
I am very grateful for all the advice, views and helped I have received from the members while I was waiting to see the urologist.
