Hi,
So today Dad has finished his 24 month stampede trial, - Psa has been creeping up despite added casodex, Due to the sternum mets I expected chemo to be on the cards, however they have prescribed stillbesterol, aspirin and and For review in 3 months. Does anyone know if casodex is the same as stillbesterol, I'm convened of casodox not worked then another oral hormone is not going to be of much benefit????

Stilbestrol (DES) and Casodex are very different beasts although both are type of HT.  Stilbestrol is an old (but still effective) synthetic form of female oestrogen. Casodex (Bicalutamide) is an anti-androgen which interferes with the cancer's ability to use testosterone as a fuel source. Both can be very effective but work in different ways. There are many forms of oral HT and they are not all the same, hence one may work when others fail e.g. Abiraterone or Enzalutamide. Many people don't fully understand HT and just how varied and complicated it can be. Lots of tools in the box - look at my profile for an example of a man with extensive mets (spread) yet still alive and well nearly 7 years on http://community.prostatecanceruk.org/editors/tiny_mce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif

PS - I was on STAMPEDE as well http://community.prostatecanceruk.org/editors/tiny_mce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif

Hi Jo
John has been on Stillbestrill since September 2013. He's been ok, he has grown a rather impressive pair of boots, which really get him down, but apart from that, it's been plain sailing really. He's strtign chemo shortly, but we got more than a year out of it.cant be bad.

Good luck
