Sildenafil side afects

User

I am 7 weeks post opp and have been started on Sildenafil 50mg daily to improve blood flow. I am three days into usage and am experiencing cracking headaches and and generaly feeling exaughsted. I have switched to taking the tablet an night to limit the headaches to the night time. Has anyone else experienced these side-effects?

Is there an optimum time to take the tablets? Will the headaches diminish as my body gets used to the medication?

So many questions so few answers.

Hi Chas,

Either your doctor is trying to kill you off or you have misunderstood. Sildenafil does not help with nerve repair and there isn't a 5mg dose. Sildenafil should not be taken more than 2 to 3 days apart, in most areas of the country men are limited to 4 tablets per month and doctors are not permitted to prescribe more than that unless there are very strong reasons. I don't think you should taken any more until you see the nurse :-(

Wow, daily? My husband has it twice a week, same dose. Are you sure it should be daily?

As far as I know the usual dose is 5mg daily, that's my dose anyway. Yes, there are reports of pains in the legs and headaches etc. but, and I'm referring to my dose, I've been able to come through that and I'm still taking them 6 months on.

Thanks for that.

I feel so ill I am not going to take any more until I see my ED nurse for the first time on Wednesday. I think I will email my Cosultant to check the dosage is correct and the 50 is not a typo and should be 5.

Please accept my apologies....my prescription is Cialis (Tadalafil) and not Sildenafil. I must be going daft too in my old age.

Hi Lynn

I have checked back to my Cosultants letter and it definately says 50mg. My GP read the letter and prescribed them. I have re-read the drug leaflet and as you say there is only 25,50 and 100 mg Sildenafil. I am waiting to see ED nurse before I take any more, though she has also been copied in on my Consultants letter. So it's all a bit of a mystery.

If in doubt do nout..

CHASB

I was prescribed 12 x 100mg to be used as and when required by my ED consultant, my surgeon said they would have no effect as the nerves were not spared. The urology nurse said take half a tablet as it would still aid blood circulation.

The first tablet resulted in the colour of the world going blue and feeling very warm, and the only thing that got bigger was the pressure in my head, I thought my head was going to explode . Subsequent tablets had no effects at all and I no longer use them.

Thanks Chris

I don't want to water down the message to Chas as there is no research at all to indicate that taking Viagra helps with recovery - it is straightforwardly taken for getting an erection which is not what Chas indicates he is taking it for right now.

However, I must just reply to Rivertweed - RT, are you taking it on an empty stomach? How many hours before you want to have a rumble are you taking it? John found that he needed to take the Viagra 3 -4 hours before the event. Cialis large dose had to be taken a good 10 -12 hours before and Levitra about one hour before. It is different for each man but are you leaving enough time for it to take effect?

Edited to say that I noticed afterwards that you had already commented on the empty stomach bit :-o

I am a little bemused by some of the sildenafil doses that have been mentioned.

I was on a daily dose of 50mg once my catheter was removed.  At my first blood test/consultation the dosage was changed to 25mg nightly and 100mg once per week.  I have been on that regime since then.

I was advised to stop taking them if I had any leg or back pains but fortunately I have had no side effects.

Hi Roddy,

Thank you for your interest. I have emailed my Consultant who has basically stated that everyone is different and if Sildenafil does not suit me to try Cialis / Tadalafil 3mg but before that to try half a tablet of Sildenafil daily and see how I go. I suppose its trial and error. I have decided to wait until I am 100% back to normal before taking any more and then go with the 25mg to see what happens if I feel bad again it's back to the Doc for a change of tablets.

Kind regards

Chasb
