Seeing a cancer specialist when collecting results?

Hi, I'm concerned about a family member.

They had a high PSA reading after a routine appointment but after a traumatising biopsy, found that there was no cancer.

They have now been found to have a high (or increased) PSA reading again but this time requested an MRI to try and detect further evidence before jumping in for a biopsy.

There was a little confusion over whether or not the MRI scanner was the correct type but the scan went ahead and today is results day which is public knowledge.

However, it's just been revealed that he is also booked in to see a specialist cancer team and this has been interpreted by everyone to mean that he must have cancer and therefore everyone is very upset and worried.

Please can someone clarify if they would arrange for him to see the cancer team even if he didn't definitely have cancer?

Thank you.

Hi,sorry cant give you an answer on that one but my OH was diagnosed only after Template biopsy following negative biopsy/MRI scan. Would recommend someone goes with your family member just in case.  If it comes to cancer diagnosis (and hopefully not) remember there are many successful treatments.

I understand that this is an extremely difficult time. We have all been through it.

If it is cancer - at least you are seeing the cancer team quickly and can formulate a plan of action.

That said - it may not be.....so there is hope!

Wishing you the best of luck. Let us know how you get on.

Best wishes

Alison

I think LBUK that it depends how high the PSA actually was. Do you know?
