I got it wrong again my dad went for a NM Friday, got results today it hasn't gone to the bone (thank god). There is a "bigger mass" I think my said.

He has to go back to the hospital in two weeks and he has been put on meds

100mg 3 times a day- cyproterone acetate

3.6ml- Goserelin injections

Would be thankful of anyone with any tips and information that could help me.

Thank you Terrie

Hi Terrie

"Hormones are substances produced naturally in the body. They act as chemical messengers and help control the activity of cells and organs. Hormonal therapies interfere with the way hormones are made or how they work in the body.

Most prostate cancers need the hormone testosterone to grow. Almost all testosterone in men is made by the testicles. A very small amount is made by the adrenal glands, which sit above the kidneys. Goserelin stops the testicles from making testosterone. This reduces testosterone levels and may shrink the prostate cancer or stop it growing."

"Cyproterone acetate is used in the treatment of  prostate cancer. It blocks the effects of  hormones that may worsen certain types of  prostate cancer."

Personally I don't have any experience of these drugs but I am sure there will be folk on this site who do. It's very good news that dad's cancer hasn't spread to the bones - is it still localised (contained within the prostate)?

Regarding other info on Prostate cancer - have you downloaded the 'Tool Kit' from the PCa UK Site...... lots of useful information. Best to find out more about dad's cancer if you don't already know e.g. Gleeson Score, PSA level, Staging as this will help folk on this site provide better advice.

Your not alone .... there is lots of help out there, not just for patients but families to ;-)

Just to add that for additional support you can speak with your own GP or practice nurse, you can also speak to the specialist nurses available through this site. Other place that may help you, MacMillan.
