Erectile Dysfunction Vacuum Pump Petition

There have been attempts to prevent NHS prescriptions for Vacuum Pumps for men with erectile dysfunction. So a petition has been started to persuade the government to debate the issue.

Petition:

Vacuum Erection Devices should remain as a high priority treatment for ED
An increasing number of CCG's are restricting the availability of Vacuum Erection Devices as a treatment for erectile dysfunction on community FP10 prescription by listing it as a "low priority" treatment against the grain of clinical evidence and recommendation by Urological Consultant Specialists

More details
Numerous published studies exist supporting the use of VED's as a safe, effective and high compliance treatment for erectile dysfunction of all aetiologies and as a penile rehabilitation tool post pelvic cancer treatment eg prostatectomy. Supported also by organisations such as the British Society of Sexual Medicine, MacMillan and Prostate Cancer UK, and sexual health specialists across the UK. Low cost option with up to a 5 year warranty with no effective restriction on frequency of use.

NOTE: Having had problems obtaining a Vacuum Pump but when I did finding it very beneficial I supported this petition immediately. The petition is fairly new so when i signed the total number who had signed was 80 and at least 10,000 signatures are required before the government will respond.

I shared it earlier on Facebook as an appeal for everyone to sign and share saying we need 10,000 signatures to help guys through their traumatic time.

I imagine it would be difficult to share on FB if friends were not aware of their pal's diagnosis but John has been very open with friends and family about the impact of the disease and side effects of treatment. Awareness raising is essential - I think we all agree on that - but one of the big inhibitors to men seeing their GP or asking for a test (or their partners, sons, daughters, friends pushing them) is this myth that getting PCa is no big deal.

Men United should be asked to promote this petition - they have already caught the attention of all premiership football clubs and senior rugby clubs, as well as most sports programmes on TV. Other organisations that could be approached include Probus, Rotary, Roundtable, local Masonic lodges, Lions, etc.

Well, that was easy to add my name . Now at 94 signatures- How to get more?

I wonder if PCUK could push this issue via their email list of members? ( No pun intended..) That would certainly bulk up the numbers signing.

As a person with ED, it's a bit of an awkward one to share on a personal Facebook page, and I'd guess other men with the condition would feel similarly.

As to alternative ways of bumping up the numbers, I can't think of any national organisations which are largely comprised of men of the 'target' age group who might publicise this.

I wonder if the WI might?
