Slow rising PSA/ MRI Test

Hello everyone- glad I've. Found such a wise and supportive place.

I presented with uriary problems in 2014, and was diagnosed with CPPS/ Prostatitis

At that point my PSA was 3.8, and since then has slowly risen to 5.1 as of last week.

GP has referred me to the specialist, but I took matters into my own hands and had an MRI privately.(££!)

I see the specialist with the results in 2 days.....

Of course in this interim, I'm worried and perplexed, and will post further.

Bill,

Glad you are happy with the treatment you have had within the NHS and the timescale. I assume when you say that 'MRI,CT and Bone scans all done within 2-3 months of diagnosis' you mean referral as full diagnosis is made only after tests and scans. If biopsy is done before MRI as is frequently the case, it means the MRI has to be delayed so the Prostate has healed in order to achieve a good MRI scan. So if this is the sequence used at the OP's hospital, by having the MRI done privately first rather than the biopsy, the overall waiting time can be reduced.

Sorry to see you here....nevertheless.

Why would you pay for an MRI? Once I was diagnosed... my experience with the NHS has been very prompt (as It should have been)...MRI,CT and Bone scans all done within 2-3 months of diagnosis.  That is why we pay taxes for!

If you are found to have PC.....then it will be a long road ahead.

Read as much as you can about PC, treatments, diets etc......and remain POSITIVE!

You are right Barry, as long as Antony understands that the MRI can't diagnose prostate cancer and can only indicate whether or not a biopsy might be advisable (which it probably is).

Thankyou all for your insights.

Followed up MRI with a consultant.

The radiologist had noted 2 'equivocal' areas in the scan, and the consultant has written to my GP with the report., for referral to NHS Urologiy Department

He suggested a biopsy, but that given the equivocal results, the hospital may recommend watch and wait.

Obviously concerned.
