Father is deteriorating

Hi all

This is my first post and tbh it’s something I hoped I wouldn’t have to think about quite yet.

My dad is 88 and he was diagnosed with prostate cancer 6 years ago. He’s had hormone treatment for a few years and the PSA level has renamed low and steady apparently. However now he’s beginning to show worsening symptoms. However getting accurate information is proving very difficult.

He doesn’t want to push the health service and like many of his age is so defensive of the NHS that I don’t feel he is demanding enough.

I’m just wondering if anyone else is in a similar position, just desperate for accurate information.

Thank you.

Ask dad to ask the GP for copies of the letters he has received from the specialist. That is the best way to fill in the gaps as you don’t seem to know very much about his diagnosis or current state of play? We can’t really help without details of his diagnosis and recent test results.

What do you mean about worsening symptoms? How often does he see his consultant, or was he transferred back to the GP once he had been put on the hormones?

Hi and thanks for the reply

You’re right I don’t know much. He’s a very quiet undemanding man and doesn’t want to be a fuss. However I’m not quite so happy to just sit back and wait

I’ll ask for the letters and see what we get.

Recently there’s been an X-ray and he’s going to be sent for an isotope test or something like that. I don’t know much else.
