psa test after rp

I was diagnosed with prostate in January this year. I had a RP in February which went well. I have had my first 6 week review done by a different consultant as my previous consultant has now taken a years leave. I had a psa test done prior to my appointment and the reading was 0.6. the results of my opp were clear with both sides and nodes showing clear but because the psa test tested at 0.6 the consultant was not clear if the test was stlll settling down or if a few small cancer cells are still being detected on the rectum. He has arranged for me to have a second psa test in about 3/4 weeks and wants me to have a chat with an occologist about future radiotherapy shoud the next psa test show a reading above 0.3

Had you done anything different before the PSA skd64? ie cycle ride, intimacy?

Good luck with the next test. It's always a worry isn't it

Sorry to read this, skd - I think I would want to see the oncologist regardless of the PSA result in 3 weeks' time.

SKD

Talking to my consultant at one meeting he said if a patient comes to him at six weeks with a figure above 0.09 after surgery he immediately sends them to phlebotomy for a retest. Are you sure the figure was not 0.06.

Thanks Chris

My husband's results took a quite while after his RP to get to their lowest point so I think another test is a good idea.

11/02/17 RP
20/03/17 0.01 (Spire)
02/06/17 0.004 (Spire)
05/08/17. 0.005 (Spire)
02/10/17. <0.003(Spire)
01/18 <0.003(Spire)
03/18 <0.003(Spire)

after my 1st psa test which came in at 0.06 my 2nd 2months later has now gone up to 0.09.This does not sound very good news. I have now been referred to an oncologist who i see in late July. getting worried

What would be an optimum PSA level after prostatectomy?

I get confused with all the decimal points and as to the accuracy of and calibration date of different path labs’ results.

Please let me know as I have to look forward to this for the next five years at least!

You can check my profile but basically I had RP in Feb 2013. My post op PSA was 0.06. I saw the oncol and by July my PSA was 0.087. So we decided on RT which I had in Aug/Sept 13.

I’ve had no further treatment and my last PSA test in April this year was <0.01

Good luck
