Back for 6 month test! Anxious again!

Hi everyone,

Just had my 6 monthly follow up PSA blood test just now so thought I would post on here again to also give everyone that messaged me before a general update!

In January this year I was confirmed type 2 diabetes which wasn't the news I wanted but although I'm on medication for it my 3 monthly test came back with good results plus through changing my diet etc I've managed to lose over a stone in weight!

I was a bit anxious about my follow up PSA test especially after the first one I had so now I've done it I'm keeping everything crossed that the results are ok.

I agree that your notes should be sent to onco. It is now best practice to have a template biopsy when previous biopsies have been clear. This is how my husband's cancer was found despite previous clear biopsies and MRI scan.

Hi Kevin,

It's always a relief when the medics finally decide to do something to try and give you some answers. It can be frustrating not knowing what's going on. At least if you have answers you know what you're dealing with.

Best of luck, I hope for good results for you.

Thanks for that Brian.  Because I haven't had results back yet I was presuming that blood test was normal. However I called doctors just now who tell me that my results have been back for over two weeks but I still don't know what they are. I've booked a telephone consultation appointment with my doctor for this afternoon so we'll see then!

Hello again,

Got my results via a telephone conversation which I requested this morning. My PSA is 13.8 which is lower than the previous reading of 16.8 but still a worry even though my doctor doesn't seem to think so!

I'm still confused!

I notice in your profile that you had a biopsy and scans and everything was clear? Is your PSA level due to just an enlarged prostate and that is why you are not receiving any active treatment for it. If so your reducing PSA probably is an indication that things are settled just like your GP says.

It could be the case though my doctor did say that she would send a note about my results to my oncologist with a lot of persistence from myself for her to do so.

Thanks for your reply though sorry its late in coming. I've logged back on today mainly because of the recent media coverage of pc including the announcement today that Donald Sinden has died today aged 90 from pc. Also I have a few customers that have pc so although I've been discharged for the time being I still want to learn and hear as much about it as I can.

So I'm hoping that everyone doesn't mind me contributing from time to time.

Hello again everyone,

Just had my 6 monthly PSA test result it was 10.4 which although down from last time its still higher than it should be! My nurse that gave me the results has requested that I make an appointment to see my doctor which I have for next Tuesday. However I'm still a little concerned about this which is why I've come back on here for some advice etc! I tried calling the specialist nurse on here but it was just my luck they weren't available because of staff training! I even called my oncologist for advise but because its Friday everyone finishes early which means a frustrating wait until next Tuesday.

Hi bullseye60,

try to focus on the positive, that your PSA is lower than it was.

You are seeing your doctor and nothing can be done until then, so please try to enjoy your weekend.

And I do know what you are going through. My next PSA is in April. In readiness for any bad news I have already planned for my 5 years, and I am 2 in to them. Not morbid, just preparedly pragmatic. I am sure you will have a lot more than I am counting on.

Update; My doctor called me today and suggested that I have an MRI scan though she will write to my oncologist  first for a second opinion! I suppose I'm feeling a little relieved that this has been offered to me at last but no doubt I'll be worried about what lies ahead!
