Doncaster Support Group-any interest

Hi all

I am looking at the possibility of starting a PCa support group. I have a possible venue that has great facilities eg Skype, interactive board etc, etc plus tea and coffe ;-)

The building belongs to Healthwatch Doncaster. It may only be available MON-Fri during office hours so not sure if this will be an issue. I have asked them to check any availability on evenings

The venue is in the middle of Doncaster not far from the train station.

I have contacted PCUK to see what support they can offer.

So I am now trying to determine what interest there may be out there. I don't personally think if should be limited to Doncaster and as I say it's very near the train station.

I will be advertising far and wide if it's felt it's worth pursuing. Can anyone make posters or perhaps PCUK can help with that :)

Just thought I'd let you know and if your interested please let me know

I know I am just a girlie but with my ongoing training and involvement in palliative care I hope I could come along and be supportive xxx

Cheers Si. Be good if we can get a support group together where we can get guest speakers etc

Goes without saying Mo. I mentioned the wealth of experience that could be tapped into to offer each other support. I'm hoping the forum will attract men and their OH's

Early days but it has to start somewhere

Well done Bri, good for you and also Si and Mo.

Bit far for Kim and I or we'd be there too; even if it was only sorting beers and pizza! 😜

Hope things go well with getting the venue sorted and that your new support group becomes a success for both you and the guys and families who will utilise it.

All the very best

Take care

Well guys it appears there is already a PCa support group in Doncaster. It's ran by the specialist nurses at Doncaster Infirmary. Why they haven't advertised it I don't know Paul (yorkhull) and I attend the urology outpatients there and neither of us knew about it.

So I really cannot see the point in starting a new group. I will go and see what the existing group has to offer. Unfortunately this group also takes place during office hours. They must think all PCa patients are retired or too ill to work

Anyway the next meeting takes place on the 26th September at 2.00pm at the post graduation education centre at Doncaster Royal Infirmary

Hi Bri,

Sounds like the already formed support group could do with a somebody like you who is prepared to give it a bit of a 'push' and help promote it. Not going to be as effective as it could be if few know about it's existence.

Cheers Barry. Just got a poster from Pcuk advertising it. That will get handed out at a coffee morning doncaster Healthwatch are holding to promote Pca
