Numerous Symptoms

I fell ill at the end of January 2013.  It started with throbbing kidney pain in the left side and I was given a dose of antibiotics and referred to the urology section as they thought it was kidney stones.  A CT scan shows calcium deposits in my left kidney (nephrocalcinosis) and I was referred to the renal section whom just keep saying that it should not cause pain.  This was approximately in July 2013 and I was off sick from work with severe kidney pain and headaches for nine months.  I was also referred to the back specialist whom stated after a MRI scan there was just wear and tear in my lower back area.  For months I have been dealing with severe pain and have been on morphine and other strong medication,

I have had my prostate checked twice now and it was very painful.  I was given strong doses of antibiotics which did nothing.  There have also been problems with my blood pressure and I have been given five different high blood pressure tablets due to side effects  (including swollen feet and flushing of the face).

I have visited the renal section approximately five times now and all they do if just check my urine and blood pressure and say there is nothing wrong with my kidneys.  Here I am now, my headaches are controlled with pre-gabalin but the kidney pain is still there.  I am also having problems visiting the toilet especially at night with it taking up to one hour to urinate.  One thing I noticed about two years ago is a stinging pain during ejaculation which has got worse and worse and now I cannot ejaculate.  I have now been back to the doctors and demanded to see the urology section (as I have not seen them for one year) as I now believe its my prostate.  My work doctor states I am classed as disabled as it is a long term condition lasting more than a year.  I am actually due a CT scan in the loin area where the pain is.

I cannot urinate on a night time now and on several instances have fell asleep on the toilet!  It feels that I am desperate to go and when it feels like the urine will come out it gets sucked back in again (they have given me medication to relax the muscles in the groin area as well but it does not work at night).  I now have dry orgasms and bad bladder pain.

Can you get a second opinion or a private referral to another urologist?

You need some answers and fast! You cannot manage in this pain.

I generally always get 2 opinions.

All the best.

Hi and welcome to this forum.

Age 39 would be very young to have serious prostate problems, but it isn't unheard of. I'm so sorry you have had such a bad time with pain. It seems riduclous that your case seems to be not managed to some sort of conclusion.

I'd be tempted by a second opinion too.

Good luck and I hope you get a diagnosis soon.

Kind regards

Allison

Hi sounds like you are going through the mill

Was it the GP or urologist who checked your prostate? What did they say about how it felt. Chances are that you have an enlarged prostate that is causing the urine restriction

Has your PSA level been checked via a blood test? If so what was the score? If you haven't had a test then request one

Have you considered that these things may not be related to each other. Some of the things you describe seem to have nothing to do with prostate problems at all so when you see the GP it is probably hard to sort out which things are which. Perhaps you could decide which problems are causing you most concern and then discuss those with the GP. My husband was prescribed the tablets you describe for helping you to wee - he needed them from age 35 but there was no difference between night and day. Are you careful not to have too much caffeine in the evenings?

It seems sensible to go back to the GP to discuss your inability to ejaculate and to request a PSA test. And then perhaps you could ask at your next renal appointment whether they are willing to teach you how to insert your own catheters when you are unable to wee. One common cause of headaches is taking too many painkillers so maybe worth reviewing your current dosage?

Bri, I think he has already said that the tablets are to relax the bladder muscles not for an enlarged prostate. Same tablets, different problem :-)
