Post RRP PSA results

Obtained my first result which was <0.1ng/ml considered to be undetectable. Consultant surgeon happy with it. Our local pathology services, apparently, use the 'standard' PSA assay rather than the 'ultra sensitive' one which uses two decimal points (e.g. 0.XX ng/ml). Opinions remain polarised as to the merit of one or the other. I am satisfied with that result: I refused to fall victim to so-called 'PSA Anxiety'!

I hope it stays that way for the next 5 years without biochemical recurrence. I'll happily settle for that!

However, my odds are not that good given my 1mm positive apical margin. It's not easy to ignore that damn 'Damocles sword'!

Meanwhile, I shall continue to squeeze as much juice out of my daily life as possible! 'Carpe Diem!'

Three and a half months on incontinence is down to a dribble usually after exercising. As for ED there has been some tumescence with orgasm which was a very pleasant surprise! Has been taking Cialis 10mg twice weekly. Medic has agreed increase to 5mg daily.

Next PSA in March.

Great result Jacey plus many men on here with a similar pathological result who maintain an undetectable PSA

Take care

Good news, six months in front of you and so far not had the PSA anxiety but must admit my next test in three weeks time is playing on the mind a little bit more than normal.

All the best Chris

My next PSA test will be in April

Chris, what you are experiencing prior to your results is quite normal and I suspect it applies to the majority of us. No doubt I would be feeling anxious about my subsequent results, too!

I'll try and keep my anxiety proportionate to my own clinical profile which I have very little control over. I just accept that I am at a low to moderate risk of a biochemical recurrence over the next few years or possibly earlier. I'll deal with it if and when it happens. That's the stance I've adopted.

Kind regards,

jacey
