So in the last week, I've had p s a result which was good <0.01 at 16 months post op, I've also, yesterday, been to see the lovely Wendy, my E/D nurse who has altered my script. from a daily 50mg sildenafil to once a week 20mg Cialis tadafil, in the vain hope that I may gain the missing 20% of my erections,20mg is the highest dose available, but apparently this drug can continue to work for up to 36hrs. I am wondering if any of you have tried this and what results you got? I'm sure my mate Lyn will know something of it, Wendy did mention Levitra, but said better to try this first, she does seem quietly confident so I'm happy to give it a go. Diesel x

Congratulations on your excellent PSA results.

I took Cialis in the early days of my ED. It made me feel quite rough so I gave it up.

However, I am getting some positive nocturnal stirrings and quite regular. Still nothing useable for the job but it is giving me some hope. For this reason I have recommenced taking Viagra. This still hasn't given me a full erection but with much play there is a small increase (in the early days there there was nothing). I feel a bit rough the next day but I am weathering it.

I plan on continuing this for as long as it takes and I will try Cialis again if necessary in due course (if I can get a prescription). if it works I will try and endure the side effects. Have you had a chance to use it yet and if so how did it go for you? I hope this finally gives you your missing 20%.

Congratulations on the PSA result, excellent news. Can not comment on your dosage of Cialis and Viagra, but hope it works for you. I have been on 5mg Cialis daily since the op, so 35mg a week, and 50mg Viagra if I want an event. The daily Cialis has worked for me, the better of the two.


To Rivertweed - is your particular feeling "quite rough" one of the many possible listed side effects of the Cialis? I had leg cramps and head aches when I started taking them, and took Paracetamol to overcome those aches and within a couple of weeks the site effects went from manageable to gone. May be worth considering that as a treatment plan as the potential benefits of the Cialis are very useful.

Oh no! Diesel I am so sorry to have missed your love note. We have some fairly major family stuff going on so I am distracted much of the time.

Anyway, how did it go with the new tablets? If John was using large dose Cialis, he took it in the morning for night-time action or at bed time for 'next morning' use.

Thanks for the advice Dave.

Unfortunately all 3 tablets make me feel rough but Viagra seems to be the lesser of the evils.

The rough feeling is mainly aggravation of an existing reflux issue, which I usually control with ranitidine. In addition there is a thick head, stuffy dry nose and a general feeling of being unwell and tired. However, symptoms come and go. I could be alright one minute but the next minute the rough feeling comes back. Usually within 24 hours I am back to normal.

I have found a couple of lemsips helpful.

My progress is painfully slow but I have seen some recent improvement so that is my incentive to continue with tablets for now. I am determined to beat this!

I was on Cialis at first and found they gave me a bit of a headache and a general blocked/ stuffed up head - bit like a head cold. For financial reasons, the hospital put me onto Viagra, as its licence has expired. That gave me absolutely banging headaches and I got me GP to put me back onto Cialis. At least I can tolerate them. they're not having any effect on the ED, but it's only coming up to 6 months yet.

Good afternoon Diesel

Good news on the PSA result long may it continue. I'm due sometime in the next few weeks for my first three month post op test, so starting to get the jitters, but am confident that all will be well! :)

I was started on 20mg Cialis approx. 10 weeks after Robotic nerve sparing surgery with sufficient dosage for 4 weeks. After those four weeks were up I saw my GP who put me onto 5mg daily dosage for another four weeks. No visible activity after this period and so my GP put me onto sildenafil but this also had no effect either, so I made the choice to go back to 5mg daily Cialis as this was the only thing that even remotely looked like it might work. I'm due to go back to the GP next week and I'll give him an update, but essentially although I get a stirring, there is nothing that is useable to any degree. What I do get only remains for a few minuets, and I really do have to concentrate quite hard essentially taking out the fun and spontaneity. I've purchased a vacuum pump which works in terms of getting an erection, but neither I or my OH particularly enjoy the overall experience. It's uncomfortable for me and her!!

In terms of side effects, I also tend to suffer from a stuffed up/phlegm type feeling from both Cialis or Sildenafil along with the occasional headache, but its bearable and I use Paracetamol as and when required to help the feeling.

You may already know that we’ve been doing some work on erectile dysfunction in the campaigns team at Prostate Cancer UK. From research we’ve done we know that men often find it difficult to get treatment for problems getting or maintaining an erection after prostate cancer treatment, and we’re trying to address this. One of the ways we are doing this is by making sure health professionals know what they should be doing to support men. We’ve worked with experts to put together quick guides for health professionals and we’re now promoting them.
