Friendship 2015

Hi

This must be the week to embarrass Geordies!

Nick Wright, Marketing Communications Manager for PCUK has published a blog which highlights the experiences of George Hardy in the context of friendship between men and their families who have to deal with prostate cancer. I cannot better what Nick and George have said in the blog about friendship and support.

You can read the blog at

http://prostatecanceruk.org/about-us/news-and-views/2015/1/i-ve-made-true-friends-through-having-this-cancer

I would like to mention George’s forum http://bollocks2pca.net where you will find a unique brand of humour and fun from George and the other members. All of this is from men and their families who are dealing with prostate cancer at all stages of the disease yet can still provide a continuous supply of humour and friendship.

George has run B2PCa since 2006 and he has organised the summer and December gatherings since 2007. This is a very considerable ongoing commitment and I would like to thank George for the sustained effort needed to organise these two activities. These certainly contribute to the bonding and friendship so very evident to those who are involve with this.

There is an international element to George’s work on prostate cancer websites which some of you may not know about. For 8 years George worked with Terry Herbert on the Australian website “You Are Not Alone Now”. George was heavily involved with Terry on data processing and updates for the website. Sadly, Terry died last year. If you have not visited that website you will find it at www.yananow.org– it is well worth a look.

George... Gotchya!

This must be the week for embarrassing Geordies!

Dear Friends,

Thanks for your kind comments.

I do find it embarrassing actually, but Nick Wright had rang me in November about the new 'Men United' TV ad he was involved with and asked for my thoughts. It was all about friendship, and I knew I had to say something about a subject so close to my heart.

Over the years it's friendships made on here that have kept me and so many others going and made life so much more enjoyable.

If you haven't see the ad, it's here:

KEEPING FRIENDSHIPS ALIVE

Mo, I had to fight back tears when I read your reply here. I do wish your Mick and I had got the chance to shake hands. We would have got on well, I'm sure, as you and I did instantly.

I never realised that you had watched that old documentary together. That was made in 2007 and it seems a lifetime ago.

I am now the only survivor of that very first get-together at Leicester, and it breaks my heart.

Last weekend I was at a memorial service for Peter Wilsher in Inverness, and on Monday I will be at Mike Brooks's (Brooksint) funeral and cannot believe he has gone. He and Kath had never missed a single 'do' over all these years.

The sadness this past year has been unbearable at times. Mike was the 40th member of B2PCa to leave us.

Thank God for the true friendship we have all shared.

All of these men will never be forgotten, and our get-togethers will carry on as they 'party in the sky' in approval.

And I must say I'm so glad to see other get-togethers like The Newark Event flourishing too. It's a wonderful thing to be involved in.

Leicester 2015 will be on us sooner than we know, and details will be posted in the next few weeks.Keep an eye on the 'Social' section of the forums.

Today I will send an email to all of you who have booked rooms there, asking you to confirm.Once that's done the preparations begin in earnest.

Thank you everyone for just 'being you'.

George

George you know that you,Lynn and Katrina have become part of my extended Geordie family, you are a wonderful Man and I remember to this day Mick and I watching the old documentary on TV when Andy Ripley came to leicester, Mick turned round to me and said ... "you have to find out more about George and his group I really like him even if I can't understand a bloody word he says"

It saddens me greatly that he never quite got to meet you as he would have loved to have shaken you by the hand and thank you not only for helping him, but for looking after me, He managed to do that with all our original cast of the Newark gang (apart from Julie and Trevor but he talked with them telepathically!!)

The forums, meetings, spin off meetings and socialising that we all do I believe were started by you and for that I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

George and Alan,

You're true stars. Watch out for the paparazzi now! You never know, it might be me (if I can remember how to use a camera after ten weeks lay off).

Thanks, both of you, for all the work you do for us all.

Not only is George a star for his considerable work to build a survivors community, his general upbeat and friendly nature, and his  continuing and unfaltering efforts to support us all...

but a little known fact is that he can dance the socks off anyone on this forum!

DO NOT challenge hin to "Do the bump" !

Alan

I agree with you and don't mind embarrassing George at all - he's a MEGA star in my book and often unsung hero http://community.prostatecanceruk.org/editors/tiny_mce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif

George is also co-administrator of the Dark Side and hopefully will help continue it when I've popped my clogs in the not too distant future http://community.prostatecanceruk.org/editors/tiny_mce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif
