Hi Geoff, I am no medic but bicalutamide is a fairly standard prescription in the early stages.

There are side affects , like most hormane treatment and like all treatments everybody reacts differently. Also some psychosomatic factors may come in to play since first diagnosis is a worrying time for everyone.

I had them and didn't register any change at all - what do you mean by "worse"?

Hi Geoff I cannot answer your question as i have not had these pills hopefully others will reply to you . just replying to your post to wish you all the best for tomorrow with the results take someone with you as you can forget to ask things and some of the replies Andy

Hi Geoff

I also can't answer your question. Just wanted to wish you good luck tomorrow and on a possible encouraging point your PSA is quite low for a Gleason 9. My PSA was higher than 13 when I was first diagnosed despite a Gleason 7.

Let us all know how you get on and take real good care of you.

Hi Geoff, I was dx gleeson 9 last November , I have been on biclutamide since plus zoladex 3 monthly implant, 5 sessions of chemo so far, 1 to go and then 6 weeks of radiotherapy. I can honestly say with all that lot I have had no major symptoms of anything, I have run 2 marathons in the last two weeks and generally have had a bit of feeling sick, dodgy nails, less taste after chemo, a bit more tired but that is about it physically. I would also say that most of that is due to chemo rather than biclutamide.

You will find out more tomorrow but I just wanted to say that not everyone has side effects so please don't worry about anything like that at this stage. In the early stages I worried myself into believing that any ache or pain was all cancer related and forgot that I never felt 100% all the time before anyway.

All I have had is the dark thoughts about my situation, they have not run away with me but are balanced logical thoughts, they are totally natural and don't be afraid to share any thoughts you have rational or irrational on this site as it is a great comfort to share.

All the best for tomorrow

Kev

Hi,

Just wanted to wish you well.

A difficult time but you may feel better when you have all the information about your condition.  Not knowing can be more worrying.

 Best wishes,

 Steve

but the good news is he could only see from the bone scan a dark shadow on my spine?? and now I have got to have a mri scan again in more detail to see. have asked if I could have the stampede tail but he said I can only have it if the cancer have not gone to far? so back for more results p.s. could have been worse I think ?? hope to speek to you all soon keep your heads up that's all we can do and remember its a great day today and worry about tomorrow when it gets here

Good for you Geoffrey for your positive reaction.

You'll know if you've read any of the profiles (click on the person's name and their profile comes up) that many members are in your situation and lead full and active lives, despite their treatment and side effects.

Good luck (again!!) with the next MRI scan

Yes, it could have been a lot worse - you're still here to tell your tale - and you will be for a long while yet !!!!

Hi Geoff

Gleason 9s always have to be treated with great respect so pleased that your consultant is taking good care of you. You neve em ow that shadow could turn out to be an old injury, I've got everything crossed for you.

Hi Geoff, sorry you share G9 with me.

You will have loads of thoughts and questions that come into your head, my advice is write them down and ask your consultant every one no matter how off the wall it is and write down what he says so you can digest again later. Then any that you are unsure of ask on this forum as between us we have heard most things so collectively we should be able to reassure (or not) that the way ahead seems normal. You may also get further questions to ask the consultant next time.

I like you was never a member of any forum before but this has been an excellent release and platform to hear others situations and learn about what may or may it be to come.

Take care, Kev

Ah Geoff, sorry for your last comment. Life ain't fair is it?
Glad you are still posting though.
I cannot comment (as usual) regarding the treatment as I don't know anything about it but I'm sure others will be able to.
Best wishes

Geoff

My OH's Bp was too high for the trial, but after Bp tablets it came down and he was able to take part.

I hope that the same goes for you as it is well worth getting onto stampede.

Best wishes

Alison
