Hello again everyone,

Just had my MRI results back after waiting 6 weeks to get them. I've also had a Sigmoidoscopy today to check my bowel. The results for the MRI scan were inconclusive meaning that I have to have more biopsy's taken 14 she said! Plus I'll be put on the Active Surveillance programme whatever that is! The outcome for my bowel appointment is a follow up CT Scan!

At this moment in time I'm really confused so any advise etc would be welcome.

Have you had a biopsy of your prostate? If so have they told you the gleeson score?

Paul, his last biopsy was clear but he has continued to have tests as his PSA remains above the normal range.

Bullseye, the MRI may have given them a better idea of which part of your Prostate to take the biopsies from so hopefully you will have some proper answers soon.

Bullseye

Different areas have different procedures, but I had to have a scan before they would do a biopsy. Hope all proves to be clear.

Cheers for the replies folks really appreciated. In general I'm not really a worrier but this kind of thing certainly brings things home to me. I live alone with my dog  my two sons only seem interested in their inheritance which I find sad but true within lots of families!

Update; Biopsies came back clear. Had a flow test which I thought was ok but they reckoned it was a poor flow! Just had results from this years PSA its come back 16.1 which is higher than last two years but lower than my first year. Just waiting now to see what action they are going to go with!

Hi Bullseye,

Like many men of this site, within weeks of going to see my GP I had a confirmed diagnosis of PCa, so I have little knowledge or experience of what, other than cancer, causes a rise in PSA.

However I remember, when my initial PSA test came back at 30, my GP told me she had patients with even higher PSA counts who didn't have PCa, things like BHP can cause higher PSA levels.

So fingers crossed, you may have something benign.

:)

Cheers for that Dave.

My urologist prescribed 5mg of Finasteride and 4 mg of Detrusitol in September for an over active bladder problem which was diagnosed via the flow test apparently!

In a letter that he had copied to my doctor and myself he pointed out that my next PSA test would be halved if I was still on this medication. Well because of all the possible side affects which included ED I decided not to take any of it and just put up with the frequent peeing!

I wish your onco could write to some of the others out there Bullseye - someone just posted here in the last few days that their specialist had said the halved PSA wasn't true :-(
