Getting on a drugs trial

We live quite lose to the Marsden at Sutton . Initially when my husband was told that the cancer had returned he said that he was willing to participate in trials. My question is how do we actually get onto a trial. The consultant made a note of it two years ago but maybe it's time to push for participation now, I just wondered how we went about it?

Unfortunately Judi, you are in the hands of his consultant - something to discuss more pointedly at the next review? Or another conversation to have with the nurse specialist - did she ever return your other calls?

PS - just a thought but he is under the care of an oncologist, isn't he, rather than (or as well as) a urologist?

Thanks Lyn

The nurse specialist didn't get back to me. He is seeing a consultant urologist rather than an oncologist but he will need to remind him of that sooner rather than later. He was seeing both a respiratory consultant because of his lung tumour but opted to see one consultant who would coordinate all his treatment and diagnoses.

I find that quite shocking - how can a urologist be in charge of care relating to his lung cancer??? If it were my dad or OH I am afraid I would be making a nuisance of myself until he gets an onco referral. I am not sure how many uros have access to the main trials as they are all oncology-based.

I'm with Lyn on oncol v urol. Once the urologist decided he didn't want to operate on me I switched to oncology ASAP. It was this that enabled me to join Stampede.
