Hubbie's update

User

Hi folks, not been on here for ages, tried to a few times but system get freezing so I just gave up! Have tried Chrome tonight and so far so good!

Just thought I would pop by to say hello and give you an update on my husband Steve, I see a few known faces and many new ones so maybe it might help if you are going through same thing.

Steve's was diagnosed 3 yrs ago at 52. His PSA was 14 and gleason 3 +4. He had radical prostatectomy, followed by 7 weeks RT as there were not clear margins. He also had various urinary issues and a had further surgery to widen the neck of the utethra.

Following RT he was put on Bicaludamide and tamoxifen for 2 years, but thankfully due to PSA now less than 0.3 he has stopped these a few months early.

All in all he is doing really well. Has put on weight and grown man boobs, which are annoying him so trying to lose some weight now. He has to take cialis daily and viagra or sildenafil when needed for an erection, but sometimes is springs into action on its own, usually in the morning.. which is a nice surprise..lol

We are very fortunate to still manage a sex life, not what it was but so grateful to have anything from what we expected it to be. We expected the worst in every way. Only real issue is that he suffers from a lot of trapped wind and stomach issues probably side effects from the RT, He is experimenting with some foods and going dairy free. Not sure if this will help.

I know that everyones diagnosis and journey is different but I hope our story will help some of you.

Wishing you all well and good health

Lorraine

Hello Lorraine and welcome back!

Glad your Steve has made such progress, news like this is always a fillip to others in the same position, especially the comments regarding ED.
I know what you mean about being grateful for small mercies. The lack of knowledge about the final result when starting down the treatment path can be daunting and I know I always look for the worse case scenario since it can only go upward from that!

Dairy free may well help with trapped wind. I have IBS and I have had very little diary (compared to what it used to be that is) for the past 20 odd years. When I do fall off the dairy free wagon I tend to do it all at once so then I suffer.
Soya products don't affect me the same way, so when necessary I have soya milk, yoghurts etc.

I also gave up a lot of red meat at the same time as I'd read that dairy free and leaving out red meat was beneficial for arthritis which is my biggest problem at present and it was con-incidentally helpful to the IBS so reducing dairy may well help Steve from a wind point of view. There are also charcoal tabs from health shops which do help.

Best wishes and thanks for the update

Sandra

I agree with nidge.

Every positive story, no matter how small the progress, has got to be encouraging for others, especially anything relating to the ED department,so keep us up to date please.

thank you everyone for your kind words. I am conscious that people are in so many different phases of their horrible journey with PCA and I was wary of posting, but I know it helped us to see some positive outcomes and we received so much advice, help and support from everyone on here whilst going through the worst time.

I just hope my words bring some comfort.
