Caring for my dad

Hi new to this,

My dad was diagnosed last December and the cancer has gone to his bones, he's been living with us for 3 weeks and has a chest infection and on anti biotics , but he does not want to eat and barely drinks. Pilgrims hospice nurses say wait till Monday and have a blood test as he just sleeps and mutters , has anyone one else experienced this?

Thanks x

Hi Charlotte, unfortunately I know nothing about your dads situation as have no experience of it but have bumped the message back to the top for you and hopefully someone will give suggestions or help.

You are on the best site for help and information so stick with it and try to give as much info back to get the best response.

I hope your dad will be ok and the blood tests will give your specialists the right info for the best treatment, I think sometimes things change and have to be reviewed.

Keep posting, regards Chris/woody

Good morning Charlotte and welcome to the site.

Like puffing I cannot offer insight into dad's current condition but there are members on here with metastatic spread to bones and I am sure one of them will be with you as soon as possible.

If your dad is feeling poorly he probably won't feel like eating so try not to fret too much at this stage. Did the Pilgrim hospice staff make any suggestions as to how to get him to drink more.

Is he having trouble breathing if he has a chest infection? That might be putting him off eating and drinking.
Could you offer him drinks perhaps with a straw so that he could sip it and not have to gulp a drink.

Hopefully somebody will be along soon with info.
Do you have any details of your dad's condition ie his PSA, his Gleason score etc. It all helps when people advise you.

Best wishes
