Cryotherapy or Surgery

Hi all out there. Has anyone tried the 'Cryotherapy' treatment for curing cancer in the prostate ? Seems very successful and can be repeated if needed. I am thinking of going ahead with it but would really appreciate some feedback.

Thanks so much.

I think Cryo is like really new and I've not seen any posts on here , but some of the more experienced members will be along to help you tonight for sure.

There was an interesting article on cryotherapy in the paper last night, can't recall if it was Mail or Express, but it mentioned an expert in the field based in Southampton.

If anyone feels it may be helpful I will dig it out, although not sure how to get it posted on here!

Apparently it is becoming used after RT has failed, which is interesting to read.

any takers, let me know!

Was around as salvage treatment when I was diagnosed in 2004 - circa 10K then. However it doesn't seem to have taken off for some reason ?

For cryotherapy see the two links below.

http://www.cancerresearchuk.org/about-cancer/type/prostate-cancer/treatment/cryotherapy-prostate-cancer

I make no comment about this option except read the links and then perhaps speak to a nurse on the Helpline.

Cryotherapy is done more often in USA than in UK as primary treatment so you could look at American sites for more info or check the late Terry Herbert's site YANA (You Are Not Alone now) which has international connections and breakdowns by treatment. What little Cryotherapy there is done in the UK is mainly as a follow up salvage treatment and there is not a great deal about it on this forum. It so happens that I am presently on a trial for salvage treatment for failed Radiotherapy which either provides HIFU (High Intensity Focal Ultra Sound or where this is not possible Cryotherapy.
Each treatment has pros and cons in the way it is administered and potential side effects which vary from person to person. Also, some patients are more suited to a particular option or options.

It makes sense to consider all options and then choose from those you are considered most suitable for which to plump for. I assume you will have treatment in the UK and outside surgery and radiotherapy you might have to search a bit for hospitals that do less usual treatments.
