Squeaky Bum Time Over Again...

Hello everyone,

I hope this offers some encouragement to those who are in the process of having treatment or have just had treatment.

I'm happy to report that at 14 months post op my PSA level still remains at <0.01... Phew!

My consultant has now put my PSA tests and reviews out to 6 monthly intervals.

Although my return to continence has not progressed as quickly as I would have liked, this last month or so I have suddenly realised that I'm only using 1 pad per day and things have got slowly better.
Some days the pad is only lightly soiled and so this gives me encouragement that there is still time for further improvement.

My consultant says he would be happy to refer me for assessment regarding a sling implant if I wanted, but I've declined that open offer for the time being to see how things are at the end of the year. He explained to me that it would be my decision if I wanted a referral, but agrees that it would be better to wait a little longer in any case......

To be honest, as long as things don't get any worse I'm happy to manage the situation just using one pad a day... although it would be nice to be completely dry.
I'm inclined to leave well alone, as any surgical procedure carries risks and no guarantee that things will be any better than they already are?

On the ED front.... I'm still improving but nowhere near a usable  natural erection yet.....

I did mention the Vitaros cream that I had read about on here, and lo and behold he has prescribed me some! http://community.prostatecanceruk.org/editors/tiny_mce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif

He suggested that I try it on it's own to start with and if that doesn't help then try it along with 10mg Cialis ( half a 20mg tab ) as well....so I will keep you all posted on developments.

Best Wishes to you all
Luther

Great news Luther on your PSA result remaining where it was previously and encouraging for you to have your tests etc 6 monthly. Your continence is showing some improvement as well. Good stuff!

Hi Luther
What great news for you 14 months on . The PSA score is amazing . And the incontinence thing is a personal decision but I cant see its a big deal for a man having a light pad in his pants each day. Maybe if he was 25 . I actually don't care , but that's just me . I hope the ED cream works . Im just a rookie and it depresses me hearing of men still struggling after so long yet recently heard of a guy post davinci waking up with wood after only 4 weeks . My fingers are massively crossed
Best wishes
Chris

Congratulations on your excellent PSA results! That will be a great weight off your mind.

I am sure your incontinence will improve in time. I was well over a year before dispensing with a pad every day and now I will only wear a thin liner if I am wearing a suit (just as a precaution as not easy to wash a suit).

I do have a suggestion for you to consider when you think you will be ready - maybe one day when you are home with no plans to go anywhere special wear your oldest trousers and dispense with a pad and see how you get on. If it doesn't work out you can always change and have a shower but you never know it might be better than you think. It just might be worth a try.

This is something I did and it was quite a leap of faith in the beginning but over a period of time things did slowly improve. I reckon I am about 95% now as I still have odd leaks but I live with it.

It's great that you have been able to obtain a Vitaros prescription. I hope you have success with this.

The person that Chris mentions who had a wood just after 4 weeks was a very lucky chap indeed. I confess to being very envious!

Sending you best wishes.

it is great to hear that things are fantastic on the PSA front, getting better on the continence one and who knows what will happen on the ED front with the Vitaros ...

Just good to hear you doing well

Hi Luther,

all in all good news and steady improvements, what's not to like?

Just to reassure you, you are early stages in your recovery, and every one is different. That chap Chris refers to, post op wood etc, that is a rarity. When I mentioned about people like that to my GP post op, he said "we don't talk about people like that" jokingly.

You like me, like most of us will recover eventually, slowly and all in good time.

Have a great weekend.
