We don't have another appointment at the hospital until November which would have meant a six month wait for another PSA.
John had to go to the surgery for something else and mentioned that I was a bit concerned about the delay.
GP said couldn't have the wife worrying could we so gave him, two forms, one for immediately and one for November to save John asking for it.
That was last Friday. Well the results were given today and big relief - the PSA was down to 0.5 ug/L,
This from 0.9 in May 2015
This from 1.6 in February 2015
This from 1.8 in November 2014
PSA at procedure time in June 2014 was 6.3 so we are very pleased.
This is the same GP who in 2012 stopped him as we were leaving the surgery about an unrelated issue and added the PSA to the blood test form he had just given John "on the basis of his age" (72 at the time).
We are very grateful and I consider us very lucky on the basis of what some of you have to deal with
It does prove to me that the seed Brachytherapy is working and long may that continue

Wonderful news Sandra. I am really pleased for both of you.
You are always very supportive, kind and positive to other members of the forum, old and new, and so this good news is well deserved more than words can say. Your other half is indeed a very fortunate man to have you.
Wishing you both all the very best.

That's great news for you both. My other half had his psa done at the hospital in June (after Brachy in Jan.) The consultant said he would post it onto us, but we didn't hear anything. So now waiting 'till mid September until next appointment. It's annoying having to wait. OH did ask the gp last visit and he hadn't been sent it. I'm sure we could get it if the OH phoned the hospital. But he never likes to bother people. So I know how hard the waiting is.
Very pleased for you.

I had a kidney scan as part of my ongoing visits to the oncologist and my wife had a heart echo scan at the same hospital. We waited ages for results, my oncologist's secretary couldn't find the results which was frustrating as the person who did the scan told me I either had one kidney not working well or not at all. My wife left messages with her heart specialist's secretary and she didn't even get back to her. We went to our GP and he asked his secretary to order the scans/results and got them within a week.
It worked for us so hopefully your GP might be able to help

That's really great Sandra. I know exactly how you must be feeling as my first PSA was 63 and 2 months ago it came down to 0.5 with just hormone therapy. Feels great that it is low now and I still have RT to start soon(fingers crossed) I hope the trend continues for you both.
Best. Wishes, Chris /Woody

Hello, we had a copy of the letter from the consultant to gp. It told of new medication etc then said a psa test has been done and he would send the results directly to the patient. This is all the gp received. OH not too bothered about it. He says we can't change whatever the result is, which is correct. It is still annoying though. I can't phone and ask as it is confidential. Hoping they will be good results.
The time before when we saw the consultant for the 6 week check he had already phoned home with the psa results before we had even driven home, making us panic as OH had just had the ct scan, we arrived home and the babysitter said that the consultant wanted a call back. We were convinced something was wrong. I think the psa was 2.4 at 6 week check in Feb, the next one was done in May which we don't know result of. We'll find out mid September.
All the best.

Hi Sandra,
I'm delighted to hear your good news about John.
You obviously have a good GP who understands how worried men and their partners get when they have to wait too long for PSA results. If only there were more like that.
I'm lucky that mine will issue a PSA request form anytime I ask if there's to be a long gap between consultant appointments and tests.
A wise man here once said, too much can happen in three months. How true that is.
And how any PCa man can bear to wait six months or more for a test is beyond me, and it seems too many men do wait a long time.
As for Brachytherapy? My brother in low was diagnosed six months after me in 2005.
Whereas mine was too advanced, his was suitable for the brachy.
We shared the same urology consultant in South Shields and he wanted my brother-in-law to have it out!
That man is a glorified plumber!
So I convinced my B/I/L to get a referral to my oncologist at Newcastle Freeman, and within weeks he had the procedure.
The results have been a total success. 10 years later he has never required any more treatment, and his PSA is always tiny.
Here's wishing John the same happy outcome!

Sandra,
You're like my wife Lynn. She is much more worried about me getting my PSA done than I am.
As for what you could do with your Sildenafil surplus? I couldn't possibly comment.
Oh to hell with it, I will!
Just make sure you don't end up with a Viagra mountain.
Enjoy!

Hello. I just thought I would say that we saw the consultant today, we told him we didn't get the psa results from back in May. He told the OH that he should have telephoned to ask. We now know the psa was 0.78 that is a big drop as that was only 4 and a half months after the brachytherapy. (4.9 in Jan pre brachy) He didn't have a psa done today as it was an hour wait for a blood test, he wanted to get back to his ploughing on the farm. So he will have one at our local GP surgery. No explanation as to where the psa results had gone but never mind. He feels much happier now. All the best.

Thank you all.
IT's the not knowing, isn't it, whether the treatment has worked.
Well, you all know how that feels. I was very disappointed with the .9 last time (which was the first PSA post procedure) although the doc didn't seem phased by it.
I expect it isn't anything other than a different person/hospital doing the test and it being read differently but still - it will do me!!

sjtb, if it was me I would be on to the consultant's secretary like a shot and ask her to dig the onfo from your husband's file. It's all on a computer anyway so it's not like she has to wade through loads of papers.
It's probably just a communication/secretarial glitch but as the recipients who are being given needless worry then ask.
It is a little worrying that the GP hadn't received his copy.
It's possible, I suppose, that the blood test has been completely lost so cannot be followed through.
If that's the case, and nobody is currently aware of it, then there won't be a result for you to be given in September.
Chase up the secretary. IF they have lost it then t least somebody can arrange another one in time for your next Consultant appointment, even if it has to be done via the GP.
Go for it, what have you got to lose.

Well confidentiality is important sjtb but it doesn't stop you ringing the secretary and saying the copy never arrived and could they resend it. They won't give the info to you I expect but there is no reason why it can't be re-sent if it's been lost.
On the other hand, if your husband isn't too bothered about it then so be, it but as I say, if it was lost that information may not actually be there for your appointment.

Hello. Yes you are right I could phone to check that the results are actually there. I did suggest the OH phone next week. He said no. He thinks the results may be bad which is why they didn't write, I wouldn't have thought so as if they were bad I think they'd call of write to us or GP.
I phoned a few weeks ago to change the appointment as it was in the school holidays, OH decided he'd like me to go with him so we rescheduled it for mid September when the boys return to school. I didn't think until I hung up about asking where the psa results were.

Thanks for the reassurance George.
John is the sort who would probably wait quite patiently for the six month appointment - he never likes to make a fuss.
I'm not the same !
I do sometimes wonder whether the doctor has more time for John because his file has so little in it (unlike mine!!)
Whilst John was down there asking for the blood test form he asked if Sildenafil came in 75 mg because he hasn't reached the stage yet where he wants to say he needs 100mg and he has been cutting them.
Doc checked - no they don't, they come 25mg (which we have had but they are difficult to get), 50s and 100.
Tell you what, since you're cutting them I'll give you four extra tablets!!
It means we have ended up with more than our 4 a month. Result!
Goodness know what we'll do with them http://community.prostatecanceruk.org/editors/tiny_mce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif
