Hi

I've been having Prostap injections since January 2013, I certainly don't seem to have the energy I used to have and sometimes I have to make a bit more effort walking but's that's only occasionally. My wife says I should remember I'm not so you as I used to be!

On a more serious note when I saw the oncologist in July she said she would arrange for me to have a bone density scan in November before I see her again in January 2016. I'm not taking any supplements etc. but am assuming that as I don't have an immediate appointment it isn't a concern and urgent.

Perhaps this is something you could consider asking your oncologist/doctor for ?

All the best

Radar

Two sides:

I've never taken Vit D supplements (only tried one other for a short time ). My consultant said being outside such as gardening or walking at a brisk pace was all that was needed.

A good 10 years on I have osto in my hands , although the problems have decreased greatly of late.

The question: with all my refurb work it was not unexpected my hands would suffer at some point – would Vit D have helped keep my hands better for longer?

I didn’t have a bone (dexa) scan – looking back would it might have been wise to?

If you feel it's doing you good then most likely it is.

I've been on HT for over a couple of years now.
On the advice of George H. I requested a dexa scan to check my bone density.
Result was I was diagnosed with osteoporosis and I'm now on alendronic acid and calcium supplements.

It's worth an ask to prevent issues down the line.

all the best

Hi Radar,

I asked my GP about Calcium tablets as soon as I started hormone therapy after reading about bone density problems in the hormone therapy  treatment guide that PCUK publish.  He agreed I should take Adcal-D3 tablets, twice a day, just in case, to avoid the possibility of osteoporosis developing.

They may not make any difference but at least I've tried to prevent my body suffering from something else.

Steve
