Hi, just found this forum and joined. Had an elevated PSA score early this year and an MRI scan a couple of months ago with showed PIRAD score of 5x5 with possible staging of T3a/T3b. Still not quite sure what that means. Had a biopsy last Wednesday under general anesthetic and now have to wait 4 to 6 weeks for the results.

Worrying times for me and my family.

You are certainly in the right place to get support and help understanding.

Waiting for results is dreadful, almost like you are marking time. X

Morning Lee and welcome from me too.

Scary times eh? and the waiting will seem like forever.

PIRAD is apparently a passive infrared detector. Never heard of it before, unless it is usually called something different.

Anyways, you're here now and we are a bunch of men with some wives and partners, all of whom have been affected by prostate cancer.

There is a wealth of advice and experience on this site- and that's just from the members - let alone the specialist nurses on the site  you can ring.

We usually advise new people to obtain the site's Toolkit which is downloadable from Publications or on request if you want the hard copies.

Loads of info in these leaflets and may help you get a list of questions ready for the various options which may be offered to you.

When you go for the appointment take your list of questions with you as well as a pen and paper for the answers. It helps to have a second pair of ears with you as you won't take it all in.

Take your time, if you can, with any decision you make. Don't be rushed and then be happy with your choice

Best of luck.

PIRAD is a way of describing what the scan showed - 1 means there was no sign of any suspicious area at all and 5 means there is a high likelihood of cancer. The idea is that the biopsy is then targeted at the suspicious areas - more reliable than the usual 'stick a pin in the fruit cake and try to find a cherry' method.
