Hi im 4 days post catheter, this is after a Robot Assisted Prostatechtomy 2 weeks ago,i would like some advice/experiences regarding incontinence,i find im ok during the night(pad worn)i usually get a feeling on Right side, this was the side the cancer was diagnosed on,i am able to go to toilet without leaking.During day however if i get up too quickly i leak a bit&sometimes if im stood,is this normal?.Im trying to do the pelvic floor excercises as i go on.Ive also started going on walks. Is it a case of everyones different or may i look forward to an improvement in this area.

Best of luck to all.

Regards.

Hi Polarbear2

I would say you are doing very well after 4 days, many men would be jealous.

All the best

I found that I sometimes leaked when standing up to quickly. The odd accident is to be expected. Still early days good luck.

Thanks Chris

Hi,

You are doing far better than me. I was leaky for months. The pelvic floor excercise helped I did them about 4 times a day. I did see an incontinence advisor. She told me that  because of the leaking that I was emptying my bladder too often and said I needed to retrain my bladder and therefore only go when ai really felt the urge. Also she told me to try and avoid fruit juices, tea and beer in the early days as they all irritate the bladder.

Good luck,

Paul

Hi its Polarbear2 again. One week after catheter removed.Urine retention not bad during the night.Get a feeling down R side of lower tummy which is telling me to go.This is occurring approximatly every 2 to 3 hrs.No leaks at night, but still some during day dependent on ammount of excercise i do.Im still trying to do the PF exercises. On the strengh tat this next bit may sound stupid but here goes anyway,i did have doubts prior to the operation that i may lose my libido given that what they are removing is/was a fundemental part of a mans make up,but 3 weeks on from the operation i still have the same feelings for my partner albeit its a case of mind over matter at the minute. Is it normal to have feelings like this.I welcome any input whatsoever.Best of luck to all on our journey.

Best Wishes.

Polarbear2.

Continence should not be judged on the performance probably up to several months from the operation / catheter removal. There has been a lot of disruption around your bladder and urethra and it will take your body a while to re-adjust itself, and for the swelling resulting from the trauma of the operation to go down. Above all, in the first few weeks, remember you have had a major operation (yes, even if carried out robotically). Take it easy, and that includes not overdoing the PFEs. Enjoy yourself for a while and see what's on daytime television.

Polarbear I think you have confused loss of libido and impotence. Having surgery and removal of the prostate does not usually cause loss of libido (unless the man has become depressed as a result of getting cancer or dealing with side effects) so most men will have the feelings / urges. The problem is that most can't get an erection or the other side effects mean that thinking about it is easier than actually being able to do it.

My libido was totally over the top for the first 3 months post op. I can't explain it. No erection in sight but I was hunting my lady down. Maybe natures way of trying to keep her mine , knowing that I was impotent. Who knows !!!

Your love hasn't changed Polarbear even if your body has. I'm sure your other half is just glad that you still feel that way.
