Hi Guys,
It is some years now since I had my TRUS biopsy.
At the time, I am sure the advice was it would take some weeks to settle down, I experienced blood in my urine and semen for some weeks afterwards, initially red coloured but it went progressively darker brown, suggesting that it was blood that had bled within my prostate and/or bladder and had then aged a little inside me before it came out, we used to jokingly call it 'spunk of the Devil'.
The standard advice was that you had to wait 4-6 weeks after a TRUS biopsy before having a follow up MRI scan, because it was too difficult to see the cancer hidden by all of the internal bleeding, swelling and bruising caused by the TRUS.
It is often the case that T stages are 'revised' upwards in MRI scans following the initial T stage provided by the TRUS. We had a doctor give a talk to our support group, he was of the opinion that these regradings may sometimes be erroneous as they may result from the MRI scan being done too soon after the TRUS, with bleeding/bruising being mistakenly identified as tumour.
Last year I had a template biopsy which didn't result in blood in urine for any significant amount of time, indeed getting over the constipation caused by the antibiotics was my biggest problem.
On the subject of infections, I recently had my GP test my urine and declare me free of infection, while my Consultant identified a prostate infection, so it is perfectly possible to have an infection in the prostate which doesn't show up in urine tests.
I don't want to worry you, but I was reading on the Internet of at least one guy who died from sceptacimia within days of his TRUS biopsy, I think it was either the Canadian's or Swedes who were reporting up to 1 in 20 TRUS biopsies resulting in infections so severe that the patient was hospitalised, this seems to be increasing over there as they have more antibiotic resistant strains of infection. So if you don't feel well, don't feel sheepish about nipping down to A&E.
:)
