well we have decided to take the plunge and move house, selling our 3 bed semi and looking for a 2 bed bungalow, big decision but wanted to do it now then wait and see as to how I progress

concerns are for the wife and what she would have to deal with, looking after me the house garden and working, so we thought a smaller more manageable place to live

got 5 to go and view so not spoilt for choice and have a buyer for our house already

Good luck with that.

We have been in this house for 46 years. The thought of moving/getting rid of all my toot fills me with dread.

Good that you already have a buyer. Hope you find something really good soon so that it all goes swimmingly

We often think of moving but I know my OH would not be able to cope so a good idea to do it while you feel able, good luck on finding a suitable place

We downsized last year. We actually sold up and moved into rented so we could wait for a property which fitted our needs. It was as well we had sold and got the cash because a property came up on the next street up with everything we needed and so were favourites when we made the offer.
We wanted to stay in the same village and stay close to our "children" and grandchildren.
Moving twice was a bit of a challenge, particularly as we also moved my step mum that same year.

Well they do say keep active!

We moved in September - 4 months after Brachy. Lots to do in new house keeps me busy and a change of scenery etc refreshing. Best thing tho is reviewed what is important to us in life (having cancer was a 'wake up call') that we realised more than ever when I was diagnosed that family are more important than anything to us so now live closer to them and see the grandchildren more.

No regrets.

Hi Guys,

I had a chat with one of our medical specialists about this very issue, like I have got PCa, I am probablly going to die of it rather than with it, how is the end game likely to play out, and what should I be doing in the meantime to make things easier for all concerned, should I move to a bungalow, get doors widened for wheelchair etc?

I was told that blokes tend to go fairly quickly, either the cancer spreads to kidney/bladder/uretha and the end comes quickly in a matter of days, from kidney failure, what used to be called 'blocked water', or the cancer spreads elsewhere, the pain becomes intense and the opiate painkillers send us off on the trip of a lifetime.

Now that is probablly a gross oversimplification and I apologise if anyone finds it too simplistic, however the point was to tell me that the end would come quick, and that there was no need to anticipate a lengthy period of incapacity, no need to worry about wheelchair access or moving to a bungalow.

I think that men on here who have moved to bungalows have been trying to plan for the person they will be leaving behind rather than expecting a long invalescence DK!

spot on with your assumption

we have found two bungalows we like
one is all done ready to move straight into with garage, new kitchen, bathroom and carpets, but a small garden with no scope to add a conservatory, need car for work

or
option two no garage but plenty of space for one, bigger garden room to extend property

elderly lady, gone into care home needs lots doing which we don't mind having done, kitchen, bathroom all very dated but seem usable, double glazing and all external doors require renewing, this bungalow on mkt 10,000pounds less than other, but we figure at least 15-20 grand to bring up to spec
can catch train to work no car needed so more to spend on bungalow

so considering putting in a low offer 15k under asking price to see what response is

exact bungalow sold on street april this year for 5k less than they are asking
has garage, new fitted kitchen and bathroom

we have said willing to go to 6k under asking price otherwise we will keep looking or go option 1, which we are going for a 2nd viewing next week

Would have to move a long way away from where we are now which makes it even more difficult.

well house move is moving, have a buyer for our house took all of 3 days to sell it, didnt even get the for sale sign up, have been offered full asking price, we have found a bungalow we like and our offer been accepted, so after xmas expect things to start happening

first time buyer on our house and no upward chain on bungalow, be moving back to the village where both wife amd myself where born

We moved on Oct this year, closer to children,but like Lynn said I wanted to move so that my wife can manage size and costs easier.

Went from large three bed semi to a small two bed Bungalow very happy

So pleased for you both. Hopefully it will all go smoothly.

Very exciting all that planning what needs doing and it's brilliant that you have so much scope.

Having said that, our son has just had an extension built and his kitchen re-vamped. It's a fantastic job, real quality workmanship but it has taken soooooooo long and caused so much stress as they were living through it all.

Please take care both of you. Will you have to live in the property whilst the building/decorating is being done:? Was it the old lady's bungalow that need work on it?

lucky for us another one came on the market needs no building work just decorating to our taste, so we will get the main bedroom done when we move in as once the wardrobes are in place they take some moving, the rest is ok to wait till spring/summer

has a detached garage which will become my shed/hideaway, plus extra freezer and tumble dryer, really looking forward to moving in

did your son get a completion certificate off the council, reason why I ask is we didn't and I have had to contact council to send as you need this for when you sell house

Great that everything is going ahead as planned.
It takes quite a few thing off ones mind.
Lots of smilies to look forward to for 2016 as i am so hoping for too.
The moving should be great fun a a good opportunity to clear out some of those things you've not used for 10 years (some people say 2 years).

We've been moved 2 years now into a smaller house (although we moved before my dx my guardian must have known something was going on)
If you're anything like me your garage will become the projects cave but you will have to guard against the encroachment of freezers, fridges, vac and other girlie stuff that can't be squeezed into the attic.

They are still "snagging" at the moment but they shouldn't have a problem.

He's a professional builder and a fussy worker so I assume he/they know they need a certificate.

I'll have to ask if my son comes tomorrow. He's being driven mad by a slipped disc at the moment so I'll have to make sure I ask tactfully !

Our daughter maintains if you haven't used something for a year then you don't need it and consequently she will dispose of said items.

I admit I am a terrible hoarder and always think that something will come in useful. Couldn't even contemplate moving. !

so update on the move, as expected quiet over xmas, but just read on our internet tracker that draft contract in post, so best start doing some more packing, getting a bit excited its just the news I needed to cheer me up, said to wife
'just think when we move it will only take you 1 day to do the cleaning' and you ladies think we dont care about you

On our last house move I and my 30 year old son cleaned the house in a little under an hour and on the premise that the incoming new lady of the house would want to clean it all again anyway.

Of course I told my wife we had spent hours doing the cleaning and we never heard anything untoward from the buyers!

have got a completion date of 4th march, still waiting to exchange contracts, but have booked house removers, also had to take out an insurance against not moving on the 4th, pack pack and pack
