Hi everyone.
I wanted to post here, because I've been reading this forum obsessively since my husband got diagnosed with PCa earlier this year. I found it incredibly useful to read all your stories, not to mention all the research that you'd done.
So in the hopes that my husband's story gives some insight and light to anyone newly diagnosed, here it is:
Husband diagnosed aged 47. Went to GP for a diabetes test, came back with PC.
Not quite. Came back with raised PSA - had 3 or 4 more PSA tests, all of which were rising - around about 10.
Referred for a biopsy.
Results - 1 core of 6 positive for PCa. Oncologist and urologist a bit non-plussed by results - all showing v.v.v.v. small tumour. So why PSA so high?
MRI showed large anterior tumour - bugger - so opted for radical da vinci surgery.
8/10/15 surgery. All went well, tumour removed and 100% nerve sparing. Surgeon very pleased. Husband suffering from severe abdominal pain but OK. Spent 2 days in hospital.
22/10/15 (or thereabouts) catheter removed. 90% continence
AND erections. OK for sex!
And now some bad news. 10/11/15 histology. Tumour was large and had 1 focal breach, with a very small positive margin. Bugger. It had all been going so well.
11/11/15 PSA 0.03 - but there's hope yet!?
Latest News
22/12/15 PSA 0.01!!
As you can see, we've just had some very good news, so we are happy. We are all aware that this is a long road, but are both living in the moment. Today, he's cancer free. Tomorrow might be different, but why worry?
I wish you all a very Merry Christmas. I won't be posting much over the holidays now, and I'm a real lurker (I don't get involved in discussions much) but felt the need to give our story to you all. I hope you don't mind, and thank you so much for being here.
