Dads biopsy tomorrow

User

Hi everyone

My dad has got his biopsy tomorrow afternoon, although the results seem irrelevant now as he's already been told he has spread to bones and maybe liver, but I guess it still needs to be done.

Anyway, I was just wondering if there's anything I could get for him to make him comfortable on the journey home, and for the following couple of days. Is is just paracetamol and make sure he completes the course of antibiotics?

Thanks

Natasha X

I don't understand why he needs the biopsy at all ?? I'm no expert. I guess they want the Gleason score and they can check just how aggressive it is.

He will be fine. Not too painful. I asked to stop for a pint on the way home. Affects ones dignity but stiff upper lip and all that.

Best wishes and sorry to hear your news

He will be fine. It wasn't that pleasant tbh. I've had 2 and a template biopsy. But very little pain afterwards. I had no blood in poo or wee both times , but he will expect blood in seminal fluid for quite a while. Yes make sure anti biotics are finished. I'm sure this will be to check cancer type and aggressiveness .

yep one day at a time is good, I have made holiday plans for this year to visit the grandkids abroad and each morning I think thats one day nearer, I sometimes wonder if one of the reasons I trend to get up at stupid o'clocksome mornings is that I just want to enjoy as much of the day ahead, but its proberbly just the treament

It is also possible that by taking cores in a biopsy the type(s) of cancer can be determined, (there are at least 27 types) and this may help them in deciding what sort of chemo etc., is likely to prove most effective

Hi

Have they talked about him going on a trial? My husband was told he had to have a biopsy to make him eligible for the Stampede trial.

Hi Natasha

There shouldn't be a need for any pain killers, I know when I had my biopsy the only thing that affected me was the embarrassment of someone prodding about my rear end.

All the best to you and your father for the future.

That's what I thought too, it seems unnecessary, but I'm sure the specialist nurse said at his first appointment something about it needs to be done so that they are able to offer chemo. In fact I'm sure that's what he said. I didn't know enough to question it at the time.

Thanks for the advice though, hopefully he will feel fine after he's had it done.

Thanks everyone, that all sounds very reassuring.

I phoned to check if he still needed the biopsy and it's as you said Chris, it's so that they can give it a stage.

Thanks for all your good wishes, we are just trying to take each day at a time X

Oh yes, thanks, I didn't think of those reasons but makes complete sense now.
