Advanced prostate cancer in 73 year old

Hi, I'm new to this site, recently been told my dad has stage 4 prostate cancer, spread to his lymph nodes and bones, yesterday he started hormone therapy! I need to know how long we're looking at, life expectancy, the doctors/nurses keep avoiding the question (I realise everyone is different) are we looking at weeks or months?

Hi Kelly,
I think you will be very relieved to hear that you are probably talking years. We have members here that have been tootling along on hormone treatment for 10, 12, 14 years now. Even when the HT fails, there are other treatments that can be tried, with greater or lesser success, and new treatments coming along all the time.

So close your eyes, breathe and then get on with making the most of your dad - he is probably quite shaken by his diagnosis but once things settle down, he will most likely be around for a long time yet.
