Hi Folks

Can folks tell me how successful injections are, whether it's with one nerve, 2 nerves, no nerves?

Thanks you

Hello David
I think at present myself and Louise1969 are the only people who are actually sharing their experiences of injection therapy. I am 48 and was told I had double nerve sparing , although no signs of erection at all really and I am now 9 months post-op.
Its fair to say that injections may not be the cure-all you think and can lead to quite a bit of disappointment. Firstly they don't give them out like sweeties , secondly you have to wait for an appt. to be shown how to use it , thirdly you then have to do it yourself and even though you get used to it it's not easy and you can get it wrong.
You will almost immediately know whether the active ingredient Alprostadil works for you . The problem is then getting the dose right . I used about 8 Caverject injections and used the full 20mg. Varying results but good enough for penetrative sex always so that was good. I now have been given Viridal injections where I can use up to 40 mg . First injection of 30 mg was absolutely amazing - my first proper erection since last June . Tried it again yesterday and although able , it was no where near as good as the last time . So very hit and miss and annoying when we don't often get the opportunity !!!
Give it a go and see. The needle is superfine so very minimal pain . Best wishes anyway
Chris

Hello. You are obviously spending a lot of time worrying about ED before you've even chosen treatment.

I don't think my other half would have considered surgery for the same reason. As I said on an earlier post of yours, surgery wasn't really mentioned. But maybe had it been the best treatment for him he would have got on with it. He has a much higher sex drive than me even though he is 15 years older. So to him it was important when choosing treatment. He chose brachytherapy. Like you he was worried about ED after. I told him to worry about treatment first, then worry about ED after. I think stewing yourself up before you know how you are going to effected is silly. This is exactly what I said to him.

Brachy has effected things a little in that department, but not too bad. It says with radio treatment things in that department take years to show up, though I think a year on it has got better. Whereas prostate removal it is meant to get better with time.

Obviously I'm not answering your question but I'm just saying please don't spend too much time worrying about something that has not and may not happen. If you really feel that strongly then don't go for the treatment that has most chance of causing those side effects. But if it is the most recommended treatment then surely cure is best.

All the best.

The injections do not rely on having any nerves but like everything else, it varies from patient to patient. For John they worked well until he had a priapism (prolonged erection) and ended up in A&E. After that, the injections tended to work once or twice out of every three times.

My dad has successfully used injections for 14 years but at a very high dose that has to be stored and used in a different way to the usual. Sadly there are men for whom the injections never work.

There are other versions of the treatment apart from the injection, including pellets and cream. Some men have more success with these while others get no response. In addition, there seems to be a national shortage of caverject dual chamber which is the most commonly prescribed. You also need to be aware that even for men who are successful with caverject or similar the NICE limit is 4 doses per month so don't imagine an unlimited supply of sex.

Thank you. I know you are right!  It just may affect my decision choice, so I'm looking at all options and variables. I see the RT specialist in an hour to discuss what they offer....and HIFU, that they don't offer!

PS 4 times a month more than enough!!!
