blood in urine after rp

Please help. My husband had a rp 3 weeks ago and has now found blood in his urine. He said there was quite a lot and it was fresh. Is this normal or should we be worried? We're getting more worried by the minute as we can't find anyone to ask.

I had blood in urine for a few weeks after the op and some small clots occasionally. I only had real fresh red blood once , when I held a wee in too long and overstretched my bladder. It lasted 8 hrs.
If he is constantly weeing fresh blood then get to hospital obviously. It's essential he isn't doing too much and he must rest. His urethra has been cut either side of the prostate and then reattached to the bladder neck. It must be given time to heal.

Blood in urine can look worse than it actually is. Like CJ I had some blood and debris for a few weeks. I was told rose is okay red needs checking. If in any doubt as CJ said get to hospital, or the district nurse, I was also told to ring the ward I was on after the op if I had problems.

Thanks Chris

If he has been sensible, taken things easy, remembers that he has had major surgery, then the blood is probably normal. If he has been trying to lift items, walked too far too soon, forgotten to rest, driven the car, overstretched muscle and tissues that are still knitting together, then you need to phone the ward or nurse specialist for advice

Might be a urinary infection too, so best get it checked out.
