Well the day of the big op is almost here and I'm sick to the stomach with fear for my husband! We are off to Cambridge early in the morning and we can't wait for it to be all over! I know my husband is very scared but he says what is, is,!

I'm not look forward to the grumpiness as he's a terrible patient as he's such an active person for 66, he was awful after his biopsies,

Has anyone else had this procedure and can offer some reassurance please!

I had my prostate removed on 17th June. While no operation is nice and I can only speak for myself but I had no pain at all and it was nowhere near as bad as I feared. I was tender for a while and was so happy to lose the catheter after two weeks.  Now 7 weeks post op I am back working and doing whatever I feel I can cope with. I am hoping to start running again next week and am doing all the DIY which I love doing. One thing i will say is make sure you have a firm chair with arms as for the first 3 weeks I found it impossible to get off the sofa without help. As for being a terrible patient, that is just what I am as I also hate not being active but hopefully he will be active again in a very short while.

Hi,

I had robotic prostate op at Cambridge in May (currently in Portugal on holiday) and was dry straight away though a little uncomfortable for several weeks. The worst was tHe waiting for the result, but only in hospital 1 day and gradually got back to normal after 5/6 weeks.

Regards

Hi,

Over twelve months since my op but I can say without the love and support from my wife I would have found the post operative period a bind. The operation itself was not as bad as I had feared. I went to sleep and woke up some hours later all done. I had very little pain. The main hassle was the catheter, trying to sleep and the inforced idleness. Then the incontinence, but fortunately that resolved itself really quickly. Remind your other half to do the pelvic floor excercises regularly throughout the day once the catheter is out.

Hope all goes well.

Hi,

Didn't have the 'op' but am aware as with other procedures some men are more adversely affected than others. It is of course a major and intricate operation and it is important that recovery is not rushed.

Many thanks to all for your reassurance!
I'll give an update once it's all over!
