Blood clots and Clexane

My husband (71) had low back pain I
Over Christmas which has rapidly been diagnosed as mets prostate cancer (ribs, lungs and spine). He has been on warfarin for 18 months for AF and Monday this week we were diagnosed with clots in the legs!

So we are now medicating with Clexane injections into the stomach (started tiday) and dropped the warfarin. How soon will this get Tony mobile? He is in so much pain which is not cancer related.

Hi, we can't really answer that question for you - you would need to ask his GP or specialist. What I am not sure about is how you know that the pain is not cancer-related? Bone mets can be extremely painful. Have they started him on hormone treatment straight away? Do you know which one?

Clexane is just an anti clotting medication. I'm not sure why your husband has been prescribed this but it is normally prescribed after an operation, for example when my friend had a knee reconstruction, I was also prescribed it after a brief spell in hospital prior to being prescribed warfarin. I guess clexane is a strong drug to prevent clotting whilst your husband is immobile. I do hope he recovers soon

Hi. Yes he has had zoladex to the stomach on Monday and biclutamide for a month. We presume the clots are a sideline to the cancer which is in his back ribs lungs and prostate but not, so far, in his calves.

The clexane knocked him out yesterday and he went to bed at 6pm. Day 2 today and we're hot everything crossed for a pain alleviation day

Thank you for your good wishes. The clexane has replaced the warfarin andvyes, I guess it thinsctge blood with more alacrity D disperses the clots in his legs. Hopefully.
