No nerve sparing and ED clinic

Hi all,

This is my first post so be gentle.

My DH had RARP in Jan this year. They were not able to spare any nerves. We have our first appt at the ED clinic on 8 march. We know he should be offered a vacuum pump but not sure if there is anything else we should expect or should ask for.

Many thanks

Sue

Hi, not much advice really except don't be fobbed off with viagra or Cialis. Tablets won't work if he has no nerves. They may offer the pump and ask him to try that before they agree to anything more but he could ask about Muse (pellets), cream or caverject (injections). You may be unlucky and live in an area where the COG refuses to find a pump in which case firmly argue that since viagra is going to be pointless, the pump is the cheapest option for them.

Thank you for the info. We are lucky in that our area they do fund pumps. We will ask about the muse. Not sure he will like the idea of injections but needs must!

S

I was supposedly non nerve sparing but sildeafil does have a limited effect on me. My ED consultant gave me 4 sildeafil the first time I saw him along with a prescription for a pump. Later when things were not going to plan he offered me caverjet but I declined and chose muse. Just to clarify caverjet is injected into the penis, muse comes in an applicator about 50 mm long that is put down the eye of the penis and totally pain free. Comments from the guys (and gals) on here would lead me to believe the injections are more effective than muse. Getting the right dose is key to success and remember stimulation should lead to better results.

Thanks Chris

Hi lyn has given great advice. Please take the time to read the " erecting the erection " thread which is very up to date and discusses all the medicines and injections in detail ok. I've been very involved in spreading the word and trialing virtually everything including the latest injection not yet available on NHS which is fab !! I was given advice from day 1 on this site that you either use it or lose it !! Get that pump and use it every day , even without the rings , just to keep him healthy and flexible and exercised. You will be rewarded in the long run I promise. Lots of encouragement and fun and experimenting keeps it all alive. Best wishes and never give up - it's a long road but you can and will get there if you put the effort in

Chris may be being a tad optimistic - for some men, sadly nothing works at all never mind how much effort they put in. Even the pump doesn't work for everyone. Sumih, it is important to stay positive and keep a sense of humour but not to have unrealistic expectations. With non-nerve sparing, the problems are not insurmountable but they definitely exist.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I have just noticed that I put 8 March for the appointment. It should be 8 April.
We have managed to keep our sense of humour even though it is sometimes a little strange. We are in this together and will try whatever is recommended.
