My husband and I seen his consultant for first time who mentioned there is a new trial starting for men who have up to T3 where they inject directly into tumour? Does anyone know what this trial is called as we were not given the name?

Are you sure he said injected direct into the tumour? There are trials of focal therapy, where something is injected into the blood stream and then activated with lasers. The only research I have heard of that involves injecting into the tumour is a testosterone trial but it is for men who are already incurable and I thought it was only in America - I could be wrong and it may be that someone in the UK is trialling testosterone injections on T3 cases but I haven't seen anything about it.

Hi Sharon
What are they injecting into the prostate ?
Sounds good and there's trials trials going on everywhere. Who'd of thought a few years ago it could be removed by Robotic assistance

How fantastically lucky to get on this new trial although I'm not sure of its name. It can offer a 50% chance of full remission with virtually zero side-effects and very short term.
It involves injecting a deep-sea bacteria called WSTII into the blood stream. This bacteria is used to surviving obviously on extremely low levels of light. It is injected into the bloodstream and when it reaches the prostate a laser is fired at it. This causes the bacteria to release loads of free-radicals which literally destroy the cancer. I'm so very hopeful for you !
Contact the nurse specialist and ask him , he will remind you of the trial name --- too much to take in at the first .appt.

Hi Sharon,

Sounds like a great opportunity. It would be great intel if you could ask the name. I have been researching all the focal treatments since my husband was diagnosed in December 2016 and have great hopes that in the future low/ intermediate risk tumours will become commonly treated via a focal treatment with no side effects.

The one Chris has described had clinical stage III results published in December 2016 which look very promising this is called TOOKAD or VTD (soluble Vascular Targeted Photodynamic therapy). TOOKAD is a trademark.

I have recently seen 45 trials around the world are starting with the ExABlate MRgFUS system. London is indicated as a trial site but the details on the NHS clinical trial database give Toronto information.. I am finding it tricky to get the info although given we fly to the USA on Sunday for a FLA (Focal Laser Ablation) on Monday I have only looked 'out of interest' rather than with a mission to find out. The centre we are attending in the US is a trial site over there for ExABlate MRgFUS, so I may get info from them re the UK. These machines are being used currently the UK for a non invasive treatment of fibroids in women.

I agree with Chris re contacting the nurse specialist or drop an e mail to the consultants secretary to ask the name.

Very interesting. Good Luck

Clare
