Sounds a bit odd - radiotherapy is usually given over 20 or 37 sessions, not just 6. Could he have been told he was to have 6 weeks of radiotherapy?

RT is just as successful as surgery but often with fewer side effects for older men, or any side effects develop over the next few years rather than immediately. There may be medical reasons for them steering him to RT rather than the op? Or possibly they described both options and he liked the sound of RT more; lots of men are put off surgery by the risk of incontinence.

Have they said whether he will also have hormone treatment?
