Blood thinning injections

Hello

I have radical surgery over 2 weeks

Recovery is slow

I was given 14 days of the blood thinning injections

I am moving around and have finished 10 courses of these rather unpleasant injections

Given I am mobile ( albeit not 100%) I am wondering whether I should continue with these injections

Any experience in this from anyone ?

Thanks

Not all hospitals require patients to do these injections, and some (like ours) only give them to patients that are thought to need them. However, your medical team have recommended that you do it so not a good idea to drop them without speaking to your surgeon or nurse specialist.

I had to have two months of these horrible daily Clexane jabs when I developed pulmonary embolisms (blood clots in the lungs) caused by chemo. I was only on them for so long because my Consultant wasn't up to scratch with training on the tablet form of blood thinners. I can tell you that having negotiated the change via my GP, Apixaban is vastly to be preferred. As to the specific period in this case, I would have thought a chat with the Urology nurse might help to define how much longer, if at all, you need to be on the jabs.

I had to self inject Clexane for 4 weeks after my surgery...in addition I was instructed to wear my surgical stockings for the same period.

As Lynn says, different hospitals have different recommendations... so best follow their advice.

I had no existing or previous health issues, but they still wanted me to follow their instructions...which I did

Thank you all for the advice

I will continue to follow the instructions from the medical team

Not long to go before I finish with these unpleasant injections

I had injections for a month which my lovely wife did and I didn’t touch any alcohol in that time either.
Wether it was the right thing I don’t know but I only wore the socks for about 2 days.

They were unpleasant for me however followed instructions didn't want to get any complication after surgery , the operation was enough to contend with
