Had a MRI a few weeks ago and subsequently a template biopsy a couple of weeks ago, suffered retention so catheterised. Appointment last Friday (19th) for removal,I have an appointment for 5th Feb for biopsy results. nurse did the catheter job and said once you have passed the two urine voiding tests, the doctor is here today and will discuss your biopsy outcome. Thought that would be a double edged sword, as for the results my wife would be with me, on the other hand it's cuts the anxiety by two weeks.

However conversation with the consultant revealed I do have prostate cancer and ran through the various treatment options, but wants me to have a bone scan. I'm afraid I was a bit spaced out and didn't grasp much of it, didn't have a clue when asked (any questions?) Was not told Gleason score or staging I realised at home. My appointment for the 5th still stands, so could do with a bit of help compiling a questionnaire!!

Hi Martin

Can I suggest that the best thing is you download the toolkit on this site, grab a highlighter and highlight all the concerns that you and your wife have. Arm yourself. It’s a folder to make notes and ask the consultant for copies of the letter that they send to your gp.

Good luck

I have just found out myself and the appointment with the specialist is tomorrow to tell me the treatment.

Like you absolutely scared to death but now what I have to focus on is the following:

What stage is the cancer and where has it gone if anywhere?

What is the treatment that he’s is going to recommend having had their internal meeting last Friday?

What effect does that treatment give me?

What I am trying to do is to start at the beginning and take one step ata a time. In other words the problem followed by the treatment without going any further at the moment.

This site does list some questions that would be useful but I have just tried to now accept what I have and go forward.

really hope it all goes well.

Thanks for the responses, I have had a letter today for an appointment with a clinical oncologist, for mid Feb, guess this is to discuss radiation etc, as to date I have only seen the surgeon, night help me get another view.
