Shrinking Penis!

Hello,

I had my complete prostate removed over 3 years ago and have pretty much recovered apart from that I'm still leaking a little, ED problems and anxiety. (I'm taking some anti depressants)

However, although I've been using a pump ever since the operation, my penis has shrunk from its original 8 inches to about 1 inch! I usually use the pump 5 days a week for 1/2 hour but I've noticed over the last year that its not really having much of an effect and its shrinks back very soon after. The impact, apart from the emotional impact it causes, is that I have trouble peeing and it often just dribbles out as its so tiny!

Luckily, sex is not a big problem as I have a very strong relationship with my wife and she is very supportive and sympathetic.

Anyone have similar problems and any solutions?

Thanks

It sounds like you’ve really suffered with atrophy despite the pump use I’m afraid. Were you ever offered Cialis to permanently improve blood flow to the area. I’m on 5 mg daily. The penis size thing is strange. I remained at my original size and length using the pump for nearly two years , then all of a sudden he was a stumpy 5” instead of 7”. Whatever I do he ain’t getting bigger. And I’m scared he’s going to get smaller now. I’m younger than you and have been lucky with incontinence and ED. I’m now essentially back to normal in all ways however my cancer is ongoing and not cured. Keep fighting

Some shortening after your op is not unusual but to lose so much is, particularly if you have adopted methods to stop atrophy. I suggest you have a word with your GP about being referred to a specialist to check what else can be done.

I am so sorry that you are still having this problem and that it seems to be getting worse. General rule is that the man loses the same length of his penis as the length of the prostate he has had removed, so if your prostate was very enlarged that would explain some of this. It is also determined partly by where the bladder settles after the op, and regular pumping can help to pull the urethra down but this doesn't always work. Our uro once told me that he had a few patients who were left so shortened they were unable to urinate standing but that this was quite rare.

It is strange though that your problem is getting worse so it might be worth asking the GP if you can have your testosterone checked. Do you have problems with lymphodema, water retention, or obesity? Assuming none of those apply, you could try asking for a prescription for Cialis 2.5mg or 5mg daily dose to increase blood flow to the area.

8 inch to 1 inch seems a big loss

Are you talking about erect or flaccid?

My GPS practice have been mostly unhelpful with ED. I was told firmly by one GP that ed medicines did not help with restoring function or maintaining size. He said this was an old fashioned view of Urologists.
