Tadalafil shortage!

My local independent chemist seems to be having “difficulties“ presently procuring generic Tadalafil 5mg. Someone else here reported something similar last month.

I am surprised, as there now seem to be no less than five drug companies producing generics since Eli Lilly‘s patent for Cialis expired last year. I wonder if the chemist is trying to save money, as last month she prescribed the genuine Cialis, but in the the months before, generics.

All a bit of a moot point, really, as four weeks post-op there is no sign of life yet.....:-)

Generic Tadalafil is not in shortage at all as far as I know. My GP / Chemist are chuffed it’s off license now and have agreed to me staying on it. Daily dose was my savior but only got it one year post op. It took prob 30 months to get back to normal if I’m honest. Keep it healthy with a daily pump and don’t give up hope

Yes I can confirm the same situation exists in Dorset since August 2024. No 5mg or 2.5mg Tadalafil tablets but plenty of 25 mg tablets or the expensive Cilias tablets.

The chemists all claim the manufacturers are out of stock. But I personally believe its the NHS/ Nice who are somehow blocking it. Not sure why.

I go in every week to three different chemists and the answers vary from no stock, no idea when we will get some to more creative lies like oh we had some last week 🤣. They don’t even allow you to leave an email address so they can alert you when the tablets are in stock.

Its all very suspicious.

It expired in 2017.

I've had 5mg Tadalafil on repeat prescription since starting hormone therapy in Sep 2018, and it's always been generic (Mylan, Accord, etc). I haven't asked for it for a few years though.

Almost all the PDE5 inhibitor patents have expired now, just Avanafil holds out until next year.

Trashman - Never had an issue here (south Gloc).

Picked up a repeat 28day 5mg Tadalafil prescription this morning (accord brand)

Is it the Pharmacy chain that you use that is the problem perhaps ?

Mines an Avicenna partner branch.

Trashman,

I get the 20mg. dose of Tadalafil and split it into 4.  There seems to be no shortage of the 20mg. tablets.

Best wishes,

JedSee.
