Catheter care

Hello, my partner was diagnosed a year ago, psa 60, Gleeson score 4+5, on three monthly HT injections, recently developed retention of urine and has a urethral catheter.

I'm after any advice you men can offer regarding the best type of underwear to use to accommodate the catheter, it has a flip tap so no tubing during the day, also the catheter is making him feel uncomfortable / sore at times where it's inserted into the urethra, does any one have any suggestions for a soothing cream to use

Many Thanks

Molly

I wear elasticated shorts type under pants, they keep everything in place, I would advise against loose boxer shorts.

I would recommend instilagel for the soreness, it contains anesthetic, antiseptic and lubricant. Available from chemists for about £2.50 a tube or get your GP to prescribe it. Squirt some down the eye of the penis  between the catheter and the urethra.

At night I put an extra strap round the ankle to stop any accidents if the night bag gets pulled.

Thanks Chris
